Do You Remember The Hutments?

October 30, 2014 By Nick John 134 Comments

I wonder if I could throw this topic out there in the hope that those people who have lived (or whose families have lived) in the Chandler’s Ford area for more than half a century may be able to contribute.

I was born in the 1950’s and my parents were at the time living in a development called The Hutments. [Read more…] about Do You Remember The Hutments?

So happy to report another Sold Out week last week when we staged The Ladykillers.

Chandler’s Ford War Memorial Research: Part 5

October 28, 2014 By Margaret Doores 6 Comments

I am no expert on WW1 and am therefore not in a position to provide a detailed account of the Gallipoli Campaign.

As I understand it, the idea had been to create a new front, as the war on the Western Front had become a stalemate, with troops from both sides staring at each other from a line of trenches which stretched from the English Channel to the Swiss border. Theatre Review: The Ladykillers By Chameleon Theatre Company

October 27, 2014 By Ben Williams 25 Comments

The Ladykillers by Chameleon Theatre Company, Chandler's Ford, Eastleigh.

On Saturday my parents and I forfeited Doctor Who (BLASPHEMY!!) to watch a local theatre performance by the Chameleon Theatre Company in Chandler’s Ford of Eastleigh.

It was a performance of The Ladykillers and, as a favour for my mum (not that I’d usually do favours for her), I’ll review it.

The story revolves around five bank robbers [Read more…] about Theatre Review: The Ladykillers By Chameleon Theatre Company

Houses For Eastleigh

October 26, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 15 Comments

Eastleigh is to have a new housing development for the fields along Chestnut Avenue & Stoneham Lane. One thousand, one hundred dwellings on 62 hectares [a hectare is 10,000 sq metres] or 153 acres. That is 18 houses per hectare or 7-8 per acre.

What will it be like, this new development?

Of course it will have to have “affordable” housing [Read more…] about Houses For Eastleigh

Building Strong Fairtrade Community In Chandler’s Ford

October 24, 2014 By Janet Williams 11 Comments

(Left to right): Tricia Urquhart, Sue Hunt, and Heather Dibb.

There is a strong and well-connected Fairtrade community in Chandler’s Ford. The Fairtrade Christmas shopping event last Friday (17th October 2014) at Hiltingbury just proved it.

Tricia Urquhart from Hiltingbury organised a successful Fairtrade Christmas get-together for the community at St. Martin in the Wood Church, where I met old and new friends, who enjoyed an alternative Christmas shopping experience. Another One Bites The Dust – Rotten To The Core

October 21, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 4 Comments

Today saw the first serious gales of the winter. All summer and probably for many years, trees have been rotting away inside their trunks.

Fungi feast on the lignin and cellulose material that gives wood its strength until the outer, living, wood is no longer strong enough to stand the stresses of bending.

The force of the wind on leaves and [Read more…] about Another One Bites The Dust – Rotten To The Core
