It is a family tradition to have a takeaway and watch a movie on a Friday night. We visit David’s Fish Bar (who regularly offer fish and chip suppers as prizes for various charities raising funds. A delicious prize!). [Read more…] about 50 Things I Like about the Chandler’s Ford Area (Part 2)

Read Bill Bryson’s Portrayal of Eastleigh Town. Do You Agree?

December 28, 2015 By Janet Williams 17 Comments

This Christmas I spent an enormous amount of time doing something rather strange.

I found myself ‘defending Eastleigh’ a lot to my family.

The problem was that I started reading Bill Bryson’s new book, The Road to Little Dribbling, on Christmas day, after gift-giving, and before mother-in-law’s turkey was ready. This book has now topped the UK hardback charts for the third week. [Read more…] about Read Bill Bryson’s Portrayal of Eastleigh Town. Do You Agree?

November 21, 2015 By Janet Williams 4 Comments

I was in Eastleigh for a couple of hours today, and guess who I met?

First I was greeted by an emu, then I bumped into Mayor of Eastleigh Councillor Jane Welsh. Christmas must be around the corner as I think I also met one of the Wise Kings (in November)! [Read more…] about Eastleigh’s Christmas Lights Switch on – 21st November 2015

A Very Eastleigh Festival: Mardi Gras and Vintage Market 2015

September 19, 2015 By Janet Williams 5 Comments

This morning we went to Eastleigh and spent two hours there.

An event called Eastleigh Mardi Gras took place in the town centre – a day of live music and entertainment with a post-war theme: “The war is over! It’s time to party!”

I discovered the event by chance last year, and wrote Eastleigh Mardi Gras 2014: Fun, Joy, Charities for Community.

There seemed to be 3 things happening in Eastleigh town today: [Read more…] about A Very Eastleigh Festival: Mardi Gras and Vintage Market 2015

2014 Eastleigh Christmas Lights Switch on: Snow Has Fallen

November 23, 2014 By chippy minton 19 Comments

The first snow of winter fell in Eastleigh town centre yesterday. What, you missed it? You can’t have been in the right place at the right time.

I have to admit to being a bit of a Grinch when it comes to starting Christmas festivities too early.

If I could get away with it (and I rarely can) decorations wouldn’t go up until Christmas Eve [Read more…] about 2014 Eastleigh Christmas Lights Switch on: Snow Has Fallen

Eastleigh Bunting & Eastleigh Museum WW1 Poetry Evening

November 4, 2014 By Janet Williams 6 Comments

My son and I visited Eastleigh Museum during the half term holiday.

We saw a WW1 exhibition called Soldiers’ Journey. It is a multi-venue exhibition that portrays Hampshire’s critical role throughout the First World War.

I was attracted by beautiful buntings, which adorned the walls on the walkway to the hall.
