February 6, 2017 By Janet Williams 26 Comments

Updated 4th March 2017: Today I discovered Kahuti

I love Kahuti and I would like old Streetlife friends to join Kahuti to make it stronger and better. You may find Kahuti builds the same strong community like Streetlife, and Kahuti has the potential to make it better, and make it work for us. Why Don’t Cyclists Use Cycle Lanes?

February 27, 2016 By chippy minton 11 Comments

“Is there anyone out there who can give me a good reason why a lot … not all … of cyclists ride on the road when there is a perfectly good, and expensively made cycle way nearby?

For example, Castle Lane from Chandler’s Ford to Baddesley, Baddesley to Rownhams, Bishopstoke to Eastleigh?”

So asks a recent post on Streetlife, a popular local Social Media site. [Read more…] about Why Don’t Cyclists Use Cycle Lanes?

Please May We Have Our Footpath Back?

June 30, 2015 By Mike Sedgwick 6 Comments

Judging by recent comments on Streetlife about hedges overhanging pavements, I believe many will support my request to have our footpaths returned to us.

If you go for a walk in the evening with a friend, dog or children, you will come across obstacles. Plants escaping from peoples’ front gardens will make your trip hazardous. [Read more…] about Please May We Have Our Footpath Back?

Christmas Card Reunited Thanks To Streetlife

December 26, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

This Christmas, I did something remarkable – reuniting a Christmas card to its rightful recipient.

Every year I receive some cards to unknown people at my address. Perhaps the intentional recipients had lived here 20 years ago. Perhaps the senders never bother to update their Christmas card lists.

This year, one particular Christmas card felt heavy. It either contained a stash of cash or some photographs. [Read more…] about Christmas Card Reunited Thanks To Streetlife

My Family: Four Generations In Chandler’s Ford

October 1, 2014 By Wendy Blackman 3 Comments

Jackie and Wendy, Hiltingbury Extravaganza, 2014.

Why did my family choose to move to Chandler’s Ford?

My mum relocated from Cardiff where she had run the large family home on her own since she unfortunately lost her husband. The rest of the family had gradually moved out of Wales and returned to Cardiff to visit for our lovely family gatherings.

But we could see that living in a large house [Read more…] about My Family: Four Generations In Chandler’s Ford

Chandler’s Ford Hocombe Mead Vandalism

September 6, 2014 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

Burnt owl sculpture at Hocombe Mead, Chandler's Ford.

This morning, my son and I visited Hocombe Mead to check on the vandalised carved oak tree.

On Streetlife.com, I learned that some vandals had set fire to the tree stump containing the beautifully carved owl in our local beautiful nature reserve.

Stairway bakery in Chandler's Ford

Update 1st Nov 2016: Closed: Stairway Bakery and Coffee Shop at Fryern Arcade

Original post (below):

Where is the centre of Chandler’s Ford?

Janet posted this question on Streetlife last week, which triggered a wave of responses.

One contribution posted on Streetlife asked what had happened to the public toilets located beneath the Fryern Arcade Shopping Centre in the “tunnel” through to the car park at the rear. [Read more…] about What Had Happened To The Fryern Arcade Public Toilets?

Where Is The Centre Of Chandler’s Ford?

August 19, 2014 By Janet Williams 37 Comments

Chandler's Ford Fryern Arcade new post office.

After months of delay, the Fryern Arcade post office in Chandler’s Ford will be moving across to the other side: 6-7 Fryern Arcade, and open at 1pm on 29th August.

Today I spoke to one builder who renovated the new site. I walked in to see the layout of the new shop.

The new shop will have a prominent space for tobacco. There will also be a bureau de change kiosk. [Read more…] about Where Is The Centre Of Chandler’s Ford?

Chandler’s Ford Artist Ann Burry At Modies Place

July 17, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

Chandler's Ford Artist Ann Burry

I met Ann Burry yesterday at her home in Chandler’s Ford. Ann is a self-taught artist for over 30 years.

I got to visit her little hide-away at her back garden. Ann named her studio Modies Place, after her favourite artist Amedeo Modigliani, the Italian painter. The studio was built only just a month ago. [Read more…] about Chandler’s Ford Artist Ann Burry At Modies Place

Two New Book Clubs In Chandler’s Ford

July 13, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

The Bonny Book Club, Hursley Road, Chandler's Ford.

Last week, two new book clubs were born in Chandler’s Ford. One is called Valley Park Readers, and one is called The Bonny Book Club.

We all are book lovers in Chandler’s Ford. Thanks to Streetlife, a local social network for neighbours in our own communities, we get to find one another, and now two book clubs have been set up. [Read more…] about Two New Book Clubs In Chandler’s Ford
