Charles Baynham in Chandler’s Ford

February 16, 2019 By Janet Williams 8 Comments

Charles Baynham has run this friendly, traditional butcher for 40 years in Chandler’s Ford. [Read more…] about Charles Baynham in Chandler’s Ford

June 29, 2015 By Martin Napier 6 Comments

growing up in Chandler's Ford Martin Napier

Before I relate more of my life at North End Secondary School, I might regale you with some of the other events and things happening in the area back in the late 1950s and into the 1960s.

The area at the bottom of Hursley Road, where the Central Precinct is now, was somewhat different then.

The precinct was built in the 60s, [Read more…] about Growing up in Chandler’s Ford: 1950s – 1960s: The Central Precinct; Bonfire Night (Part 3)

Brian and Suzette Matthews feature: The Precinct Gift Centre

This is a new Do you Remember series. You’re invited to share your fond memories of Chandler’s Ford.

Is there a particular shop, a person, or a service that you remember and want to share?

Today I start off this series with my favourite gift shop, The Precinct Gift Centre, which closed in February 2006.

The Precinct Gift Centre was a precious gift shop at the Central Precinct of Chandler’s Ford. [Read more…] about Do You Remember…The Precinct Gift Centre?

Chandler’s Ford Guide Book Entry

January 3, 2015 By Mike Sedgwick 14 Comments

Chandler’s Ford is like a well-engineered machine. It works smoothly, runs well and does not break down.

It is serviced thoroughly by Eastleigh Borough Council; traffic flows are fluid and it has good bus services and a railway station.

The shops here are more than adequate with three supermarkets (Co-operative Food, Asda, and Waitrose), [Read more…] about Chandler’s Ford Guide Book Entry

Central Precinct: 2014 Christmas Lights Now Switched on

December 5, 2014 By Janet Williams 3 Comments

The “Precinct Pals” welcomed Christmas today with mulled wine and mince pies in Chandler’s Ford.

At the Central Precinct, Christmas celebration was done differently. There was no need for Santa Claus or a horse carriage.

Of course there was no need for road closure either.

Instead, the lights were delicately [Read more…] about Central Precinct: 2014 Christmas Lights Now Switched on

Chandler's Ford Fryern Arcade new post office.

After months of delay, the Fryern Arcade post office in Chandler’s Ford will be moving across to the other side: 6-7 Fryern Arcade, and open at 1pm on 29th August.

Today I spoke to one builder who renovated the new site. I walked in to see the layout of the new shop.

The new shop will have a prominent space for tobacco. There will also be a bureau de change kiosk. [Read more…] about Where Is The Centre Of Chandler’s Ford?
