Some Changes at The Central Precinct and Bournemouth Road in Chandler’s Ford

May 10, 2017 By Janet Williams 3 Comments

I shared some news from The Central Precinct in the past before.

Today I took some photos from a few shop windows to keep you up to date with the changes in our local area.

Relish Canteen: closure

Relish Canteen has now closed. In November 2015, I introduced Relish Canteen to readers. I visited this coffee shop a few times. It’s a shame that it has now closed.

Tim the owner has left a notice to share the reasons behind his decision.

Tim said maintaining and growing Relish Canteen had been incredibly stressful, and this had impacted heavily on his health.

Secondly, “The most recent news that a public house has applied for an alcohol licence in The Central Precinct and our belief that this will greatly impact on our business was, we’re afraid, the final straw.”

An Alehouse for the Central Precinct?

Over a month ago, there was an application for the premises licence at the old site of the old HSBC Chandler’s Ford Branch.

You could see the details in these photos. (Apologies: due to the morning sunlights, there were some reflections in these photos.)

The activities listed in the application notice include:

The sale by retail of alcohol for consumption On and Off the premises

The provision of regulated entertainment, consisting of:

a performance of live music on New Year’s Eve

and playing of recorded music on New Year’s Eve and

The provision of late night refreshment.

Swinton insurance

Swinton insurance (next to Relish Canteen) has also moved to Southampton.

One Stop store on Bournemouth Road has closed

Across the road, the convenience store One Stop closed its business a few weeks ago. Next to One Stop is Charles Baynham, the traditional local butchers (South African Shop).

Driving past yesterday, I noticed some cafe-style tables and chairs had appeared in the premises at the top on the Chalvington Road side – a security products shop (used to be a fireplaces and solid fuel shop). Is this going to be a new cafe, or is it only being used for storage?

Thanks – I’ll go and try it one day soon. It sounds very interesting.
