About Chandler’s Ford

April 28, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 17 Comments

About half way along the road from Southampton to Winchester were three fords, nearby lived a family named Chaundler. This was the case in the 16th century. Earlier, there is no mention of Chandler’s Ford in the Doomsday Book though Eastleigh, Otterborne, Chilworth and Twyford are there.

Nothing changed in this wooded land until the 19th century when a large brickyard developed [Read more…] about About Chandler’s Ford

Ant replaced Carolyn Darbyshire MBE, who took charge since 1999 and has built a successful team in Chandler’s Ford. [Read more…] about Ant Gardiner: New Scouts District Commissioner

Chameleons: Superb Spring Happenings

April 24, 2014 By Janet Williams 12 Comments

Chameleon Theatre Company, Hursley Road, Chandler's Ford.

My friend Hazel and I watched Spring Happenings by the Chameleons at the Ritchie Memorial Hall in Chandler’s Ford this evening.  The show was outstanding and we highly recommended it. The show lasts two more days till this Saturday.

The last act Chinamen made me shed tears from laughing. We had a pleasant evening and were well entertained. All three performances were of high standard. [Read more…] about Chameleons: Superb Spring Happenings

Cycling: Eastleigh – Chandler’s Ford

March 31, 2014 By chippy minton 5 Comments

We took this cycle route from Eastleigh to Chandler’s Ford last Saturday.

From the centre of Eastleigh, cycle through the Pirelli Estate. Head for Tommy Green Walk, this brings you out onto Dew Lane. Cycle along Dew Lane a short way, then cut into the newest bit of the development (Tinning Road?)* to take you to Passfield Avenue, opposite the leisure centre (Fleming Park). Visit To Southampton Old Cemetery

March 28, 2014 By Ben Williams 3 Comments

Southampton Old Cemetery. Image by Matt via Flickr.

On Monday, I went to Southampton on a visit to Southampton Old Cemetery with some of my classmates from Toynbee School in Chandler’s Ford as we were on a history trip. I found out several interesting facts about the cemetery and the area.

The cemetery was built in the 1840s and over the years, it slowly became an area of over 27 acres. [Read more…] about Visit To Southampton Old Cemetery

March 18, 2014 By Janet Williams 20 Comments

My son and I walked in glorious sunshine last Sunday morning in Hocombe Mead, thanks to our guide Dr. Andy Barker, and his helpful friends from Friends of Hocombe Mead, and Southampton Natural History Society.

In the two-and-a-half hour guided tour in Hocombe Mead last Sunday, Andy, with passion and patience, introduced to us fascinating features in this beautiful local nature reserve, including: [Read more…] about Hocombe Mead Guided Walk

Selling Glider

February 23, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 5 Comments

Last week I sold my beautiful glider and feel sad about it. Now I have to find another one. Gliders are owned by syndicates of 2-12 people to share the expense. There are 3 of us and we decided we would like a dual seater rather than this single seat Ventus 2cT. We are currently negotiating for one.

It is not like selling a second hand car because there are no defects that can be hidden. [Read more…] about Selling Glider

Short Walk By Itchen

February 19, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 17 Comments

Edward Mike Sedgwick (Glider)

Had a short walk by the Itchen today. Joined it behind the Travelodge on Twyford Road and walked downstream to Withymead Lock where a fallen tree blocks the path and the path itself disappears beneath the water.

Upstream as far as a railway bridge near Highbridge Road. [Read more…] about Short Walk By Itchen
