High Jinks at the Hiltingbury Extravaganza 2015

October 9, 2015 By Allison Symes 9 Comments

Some of the great joys of writing for Chandler’s Ford Today are in meeting new people and going to events that are new to me.

The recent Hiltingbury Extrav was the first I’d visited despite living in Chandler’s Ford for over 25 years. So I thought I would look back at it as we leave the summer season with its shows and fetes behind.  (If anyone is in any doubt we are in autumn now, the recent wild weather should dispel that!). [Read more…] about High Jinks at the Hiltingbury Extravaganza 2015

Hiltingbury Extravaganza – Talking Maths: Andrew Kuttner

September 24, 2015 By Allison Symes 1 Comment

I’ve lived in Chandler’s Ford for over 25 years but it was only last Sunday I went to the Hiltingbury Extravaganza for the first time.

I was fascinated by the combination of pony trekking, the dog show, the hot food stalls, the icecream vans, the giant slides and a mini bus ride, the tea and cake stands and educational stalls.

Hang on… Educational stalls? At a family fair? A fun event?

Yes… and it wasn’t the first time one particular educational stall, manned by a very familar face, had been at the Extravaganza. [Read more…] about Hiltingbury Extravaganza – Talking Maths: Andrew Kuttner

The Hiltingbury Extrav 2015

September 21, 2015 By Janet Williams 3 Comments

I went to Hiltingbury Recreation Ground at 3pm yesterday with my son, and local writer Allison Symes.

The Hiltingbury Extrav 2015 was in full swing. The event took place from 12.00 noon till 5.00pm.

We were first attracted by some classic cars. We spotted Chandler’s Ford Today writer Mike Sedgwick there admiring the vehicles (and checking the engine stuff). [Read more…] about The Hiltingbury Extrav 2015

A Very Eastleigh Festival: Mardi Gras and Vintage Market 2015

September 19, 2015 By Janet Williams 5 Comments

This morning we went to Eastleigh and spent two hours there.

An event called Eastleigh Mardi Gras took place in the town centre – a day of live music and entertainment with a post-war theme: “The war is over! It’s time to party!”

I discovered the event by chance last year, and wrote Eastleigh Mardi Gras 2014: Fun, Joy, Charities for Community.

There seemed to be 3 things happening in Eastleigh town today: [Read more…] about A Very Eastleigh Festival: Mardi Gras and Vintage Market 2015

Voice of a Teenager: How to Improve Chandler’s Ford

September 16, 2015 By Ben Williams 5 Comments

After the summer holiday in Perth and Singapore, I thought it would take a long while to get used to Chandler’s Ford life, but I have been able to recover quickly and adjust to the ordinary. My perception on many things changed slightly, more specifically how Chandler’s Ford can be improved.

Obviously I don’t hate it here. [Read more…] about Voice of a Teenager: How to Improve Chandler’s Ford

Review: Relatively Speaking – Chandler’s Ford Chameleon Theatre Company

July 22, 2015 By Ben Williams 4 Comments

Review of Relatively Speaking by epicduda.

Over the past month or so I have been helping out with the Chameleon Theatre Company, after seeing several of their shows.

I learnt how to work with the lights and sound effects for the show from Lionel Elliott and Rebecca Nye. Last Sunday I saw the full dress rehearsal as I will be unable to help during the actual show due to holiday-itis. So treat this review like a film review when the film critics go to see the show early. [Read more…] about Review: Relatively Speaking – Chandler’s Ford Chameleon Theatre Company
