Another road closure ahead

September 25, 2018 By chippy minton 1 Comment

Roadworks

Just as traffic gets back to normal after this weekend’s motorway closure, we have more roadworks to cope with.  This time it’s more local, but the good news is that, like Radio Luxembourg, they only come out at night. [Read more…] about Another road closure ahead

Eastleigh Remembers – Truly Memorable

September 15, 2018 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

Eastleigh is marking the 100th anniversary year of the end of the first world war today. The event pays tribute to Eastleigh’s role in the First World War.

In Eastleigh this afternoon, I visited a re-enactment of a field hospital, some vintage military vehicles, and have seen great displays by charities and businesses, such as Hampshire Scouts, One Community, Defense Medical Welfare Service, British Legion, Eastleigh and District Local History Society, Eastleigh Gurkha Nepalese Association, Royal Air Forces Association, the Rotary Club, Air Cadets, Peter Green, and local author Paul Nolan. Review: Eastleigh’s 12th Annual Mela on Sunday 30th July 2017

August 18, 2017 By Cecily Casey 1 Comment

As always, I had a great time at Eastleigh’s 12th annual Mela on Sunday 30th July. The word means “a public event held to celebrate a special event” (Cambridge Dictionary) and comes from the Hindu word for a festival.

Ours is a multicultural carnival of music, dance and cuisine with such diverse contributors as; Irish Dancers, Southampton Buddhist Centre, Thai dancers, a band from Afghanistan called the Kabul Boys, traditional Indian dancing, Chinese Lion Dancing, the local Nepalese association, more bands including Crestwood’s Panatical steel drum band, who who always make me feel cheerful when I hear them, and a large range of stalls.  [Read more…] about Review: Eastleigh’s 12th Annual Mela on Sunday 30th July 2017

Namaste Eastleigh!

The 10th Eastleigh Mela, held on Eastleigh Town Rec, took place on Sunday 19th July 2015.

This was my second year supporting the Mela and as before the event was a riot of colour, sound and wonderful smells! [Read more…] about The 10th Eastleigh Mela

July 11, 2015 By Janet Williams 4 Comments

Hope Eastleigh 2015

This morning, my son and I went to Eastleigh town centre and was surprised to see lots of activities at Leigh Road Recreation Ground.

We were attracted by the free drinks (and who wouldn’t?), and had some strawberry milkshake. We then explored the park and watched lots of people having fun. [Read more…] about Hope Eastleigh 2015 Highlights

What Has Happened to Oakmount Road?

March 3, 2015 By chippy minton 11 Comments

What has happened to Oakmount Road Chandler's Ford?

What has happened to Oakmount Road in Chandler’s Ford? It was closed for a week recently while a number of random strips of tarmac have been pasted in the roadway.

In some places they look quite reasonable – uniform straight lines, joined at right-angles: [Read more…] about What Has Happened to Oakmount Road?
