Chandler’s Ford Changes. What’s Your View?

September 24, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 11 Comments

Chandler's Ford

Chandler’s Ford is changing. Recent changes are in its centre, wherever that is, its public buildings, new community halls, library, parks, shops and recreational facilities. Even Eastleigh Borough Council has recently moved into new premises.

Less obvious but marching slowly on are changes in its older residential areas. [Read more…] about Chandler’s Ford Changes. What’s Your View?

I spent half a day in Eastleigh town centre yesterday to watch Eastleigh Mardi Gras.

New Arrival

September 15, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 2 Comments

The rambling rose and Russian vine had made a great thicket on our pagoda so I got out the electric trimmer. Branches fell away and the jumble of twigs was beginning to take a reasonable shape.

The blades skimmed through another mass of branches and left a pigeon on view eyeing me angrily. It shuffled and flew off leaving two eggs in a primitive nest. [Read more…] about New Arrival

Chocolate and Beetroot Brownies

September 12, 2014 By chippy minton 6 Comments

Have you ever tried chocolate and beetroot brownies? If not, you should – they are delicious. They’re fairly easy to bake. Here’s the recipe, based on my first attempt. I’ve made them a few times since and am now a bit more proficient.

You will need (apologies that the quantities are in continental measurements that no one over the age of 30 understands. Actually, that’s not true. People over the age of 30 do understand them, we just choose not to): [Read more…] about Chocolate and Beetroot Brownies

Burnt owl sculpture at Hocombe Mead, Chandler's Ford.

Chandler’s Ford War Memorial Research: Part 4

September 6, 2014 By Margaret Doores 10 Comments

The Wilson brothers, Chandler's Ford War Memorial.

This month I thought I would focus on the Wilson brothers: Major and acting Lieutenant Colonel Harry Stuart Wilson, Royal Munster Fusiliers and Lieutenant Commander John Skinner Wilson, HMS Indefatigable.

The brothers were killed in action in the same year, John on 31st May, Harry three months later on 9th September 1916. A tragic loss for their parents. [Read more…] about Chandler’s Ford War Memorial Research: Part 4
