New Chandler’s Ford – Southampton Airport Parkway Station Bus Service

September 2, 2014 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

Xelabus has started their new service X5 between Chandler’s Ford and Southampton Airport Parkway stations from Monday 1 September.

This Monday to Friday service will operate from 0700 in the morning to 1900 and is designed primarily to encourage commuters to the industrial and corporate parks in and around Chandler’s Ford to travel by train rather than contribute to the traffic congestion each day.  However, it can also be used by residents and occasional visitors as well.

Mark Miller, Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership Officer, said the service is funded by Local Sustainable Transport Fund monies via Hampshire County Council and is part of a project involving Eastleigh Borough Council and the Chandler’s Ford Commuters Forum.

Timetables are available from Chandler’s Ford Station or on Xelabus’ website, but essentially the frequency of the service will be every 17 minutes between 0700 and 1000 and then every 30 minutes until 1600 and then again every 17 minutes until 1900, so there is no real need to memorise a timetable.

Timetable: Business Link X5 Bus

Three buses will leave Chandler’s Ford station in the morning at 0718, 0824, 0918 and then arrive again in the evening at 1551, 1647, 1737 and 1848.  At all other times of day they will arrive and depart from Electron Way off School Lane (Through the short walkway opposite the station entrance).

You can click to download the timetable: Business Link X5 (a pdf file).

Bus fares

Fares for staff at businesses in the Chandler’s Ford Commuters Forum will be free providing they show their smartcard or fob, while anyone else can use the buses for a £1 flat fare, except for Station to Station travel including Electron Way where the fare will be £3.30.  Should a train be cancelled at either Southampton Airport Parkway or Chandler’s Ford Stations users can show their rail ticket on the X5 and then travel only for £1.00 to continue their journey.

This is a great initiative and one which provides many sustainable transport options for commuters and residents.

To aid usage, the Coffee Bar at Chandler’s Ford station will offer half price coffees to anyone from a business with a smartcard or fob for around 4 weeks from the 8 September.
