Israel – Ancient And Modern (Part 4 of 4)

December 27, 2014 By Brian Green 1 Comment

This will be the last of my ramblings about what I felt on and after my various visits to Israel.

Firstly, I would like to consider my sole visit to the Upper Room, scene of the Last Supper.

This was something which I had approached with considerable anticipation. Unfortunately, I was not appreciative of what seemed more like a nondescript block of flats, with the upstairs room entered via a suspended walkway more suited to downtown New York. Christmas Card Reunited Thanks To Streetlife

December 26, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

This Christmas, I did something remarkable – reuniting a Christmas card to its rightful recipient.

Every year I receive some cards to unknown people at my address. Perhaps the intentional recipients had lived here 20 years ago. Perhaps the senders never bother to update their Christmas card lists.

This year, one particular Christmas card felt heavy. It either contained a stash of cash or some photographs. [Read more…] about Christmas Card Reunited Thanks To Streetlife

December 25, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

Suzette and Brian Matthews miss the people and friends in Chandler's Ford.

Do you remember The Precinct Gift Centre?

I miss this little gift shop very much.

Limerick – Christmas

December 24, 2014 By Allison Symes Leave a Comment

What I like most about Christmas Day
Is listening out for old Santa’s sleigh.
I hear the reindeer’s hoof
Land so hard on my roof.
At least that keeps the burglars at bay! [Read more…] about Limerick – Christmas

This morning, my son and I attended the Christingle service at St. Boniface Church as our Christmas tradition.

It was a beautiful service led by Reverend Christine Whitehead. One hundred Christingles were given out to children and their families.

Linda Read got her daughters and a few volunteers to help prepare for Christingles, [Read more…] about Christingle Service Chandler’s Ford St. Boniface Church 2014

Winter Solstice

December 21, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 2 Comments

Winter Solstice feature

This is an important time of the year for everyone, not just for Christians.

Neolithic man recognised the winter solstice, the time when the sun stands still. It was a desperate time, cold, dark with food stores running low.

The sun hovers close to the southern horizon at dawn and appears to cease its daily regression towards  [Read more…] about Winter Solstice

Israel – Ancient And Modern (Part 3 of 4)

December 20, 2014 By Brian Green Leave a Comment

The Sea of Galilee – let this be the starting point for our wanderings around the land that was home to Jesus and his disciples.

Tiberias is the town from which most of today’s visitors make the start to their appreciation of the area. A short boat trip across the water to Capernaum is a high spot: half way over the skipper orders, “Stop engines.” You just drift in the intoxicating silence. Brambridge Park Christmas 2016 update:
Santa visits Brambridge Santa's grotto 2016

Below was my original post published on 20th December 2014

This morning I visited the Craft Fair again at Brambridge Park Garden Centre on Kiln Lane.

I bought a lovely crocheted blanket and mini crocheted crosses from Sue and Rachel Potter.

Why Do People Love Christmas?

December 18, 2014 By Ben Williams 2 Comments

So, it’s one week till Christmas. Christmas songs are playing, lights are shining and children are anticipating a big fat man dressed in red turning up to give them presents.

I am looking forward to, in no particular order: Doctor Who, meeting the family and a long break from school. [Read more…] about Why Do People Love Christmas?

Christmas 70 Years Ago

December 14, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 10 Comments

It was Christmas Eve 1944; my sister and I had been packed off to bed with the warning common to all children that if we were not good Father Christmas would not visit. I remember how dark it was in the house with the blackout curtains.

Our house, in Sheffield, had a special role to play in World War II. We had a telephone. [Read more…] about Christmas 70 Years Ago
