Two brilliant shows in Chandler’s Ford are not to be missed today.

The first is from the poet Harry Baker — The Sunshine Kid, with The Underground Clown Club.

This will take place at Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church tonight – Thursday 27th October at 7pm.

Nationally praised for his clever and quick-witted lines, Harry promises an evening of great entertainment.

Further to my recent post on the Story Shuffle Project, I’m glad to share some further images of the app.

The Story Shuffle Project encourages children to write and ten local schools are taking part, one of which is Merdon Junior School. The schools partner up with local libraries and naturally Merdon is linked to our library.

Impossible Interviews: Richard III

September 23, 2016 By Allison Symes 4 Comments

Feature Image: Impossible Interviews - Richard III (image via Pixabay)

If it was possible to interview anyone in history, who would you choose and why? I thought it might be fun to sometimes write posts on who I would choose, what I would ask and what the replies might be! For this post I’ve chosen Richard III.

You can’t be impartial on Richard III. You agree with Shakespeare’s portrayal or you don’t. You are a red rose supporter or a white rose fan. Does it matter now? If a king can continue to be maligned, any of us can be. Reputation matters. [Read more…] about Impossible Interviews: Richard III

Writing Tools: Why I use Scrivener Writing Software

September 16, 2016 By Allison Symes 8 Comments

feature-image-tools-of-my-writing-trade-scrivener

In the week when the centenary of that marvellous writer, Roald Dahl, is celebrated, I thought about whether the tools a writer uses matter.

Dahl (and the brilliant Wodehouse) had their faithful typewriters, Shakespeare swore by his current quill (and probably at it when the nib broke, how many did he get through?!) and of course story telling originates from the oral tradition. Animal, Vegetable, or Neither?

September 11, 2016 By Mike Sedgwick

Now the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is upon us, we can expect to see mushrooms, moulds, fungi and toadstools.

There must have been some along the walks through the water meadows between Winchester and St Cross taken by Keats during his stay in Winchester in 1819. All manner of autumnal things are mentioned in his Ode to Autumn but fungi are not included. Read it for yourself here. [Read more…] about Animal, Vegetable, or Neither?

In Praise of Royal Victoria and Itchen Valley Country Parks

September 4, 2016 By chippy minton 8 Comments

A few weeks ago, faced with a small clutch of younglings (and two grandparents) to entertain, we visited two of our local county parks – Hampshire County Council’s Royal Victoria and Eastleigh Borough Council’s Itchen Valley.

These proved to be outstanding choices. I’ve visited both parks before, but being accompanied by such a range of ages helped me to appreciate what marvellous leisure assets these places are. [Read more…] about In Praise of Royal Victoria and Itchen Valley Country Parks
