Saved from Drowning

July 24, 2017 By Mike Sedgwick 6 Comments

It is not on every holiday that you find yourself involved in the rescue of a drowning man.

Our son, who lives in Chandler’s Ford, was enjoying a holiday at Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight.  Relaxing after day visiting nearby children’s attractions with his four-year-old daughter, he heard cries for help.  From his flat overlooking the sea he could see a man in deep water out beyond the breakwater waving, calling for help and in distress.  Already another man was swimming towards him with the life buoy which was provided nearby. People First? Some Thoughts on Grenfell Towers

June 24, 2017 By Mike Sedgwick 6 Comments

Her Majesty the Queen was subdued on her birthday. So are we all after the film The Towering Inferno became reality at Grenfell Towers. Reality without the hero, without the Hollywood sanitisation protecting us from thinking about slow deaths due to smoke inhalation. The film was clean, vision only. There was no smell of fear, no burning of heat, no difficulty breathing, no choking or coughing. There was no edge of panic in voices and actions. [Read more…] about People First? Life-saving Defibrillator Fundraising For Chandler’s Ford

June 12, 2017 By SO53 News Leave a Comment

Defibrillator

GoPhysio in Chandler’s Ford has begun fundraising to buy a defibrillator to give the local community life-saving equipment. With currently over 30,000 people suffering an out of hospital cardiac arrest in the UK every year, 90-95% of these people will die if immediate treatment is not given.

With very few in Chandler’s Ford which are available 24 hours a day, goPhysio felt it was critical for the community to have access day and night. It will be stored on the outside of the clinic meaning anyone can use it in an emergency (address: 11 Bournemouth Road, Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh SO53 3DA). Agenda of Hopes Dashed

February 19, 2017 By Mike Sedgwick 5 Comments

About 14 years ago, at about the time I retired and began to withdraw from some of my commitments, I wrote down a list of some of the things I would like to see happen during the remainder of my life.

Recently, I found the notes I had written. Here they are, verbatim.

I hoped for: [Read more…] about Agenda of Hopes Dashed

New Footbridge: Chandler’s Ford to Valley Park

January 23, 2017 By Janet Williams 3 Comments

The new Footbridge at the level crossing by Sutherlands Way in Chandler’s Ford has now opened to the public.

I walked on the footbridge yesterday with my son and marvelled at the beauty of this architecture. The footbridge was open to the public last Friday.

(My son insisted this event in Chandler’s Ford was more important than what happened in the USA on that day.) [Read more…] about New Footbridge: Chandler’s Ford to Valley Park

As Others See Us – Brexit Britain

December 7, 2016 By Mike Sedgwick 3 Comments

I spoke with a Sri Lankan Professor called Sunil about who are the Sri Lankans. The guide books say there are Sinhala, Tamils, Burghers, Moors and Veddah. How do you tell which are which? I asked.

“Did you expect Britain to vote for Brexit?” He asked. “And did you expect Donald Trump to be elected President of USA?” I told him “No” on both counts. ” [Read more…] about As Others See Us – Brexit Britain

Round Table Brings Santa to Chandler’s Ford and Valley Park – 2016

December 2, 2016 By SO53 News Leave a Comment

Father Christmas will be taking to the streets of Chandler’s Ford in style again this Christmas, thanks to the local Round Table travelling across the area, collecting money for local good causes.

Whilst Santa’s elves have been busy making Frozen Toys ready for the big day, Santa’s fitted a GPS tracker in his sleigh, so you’ll know exactly where he is. This means if you can’t wait for them to knock on your door, or if they are not coming to your street this year, you are welcome to see if they are nearby and come and find them.
