Life-saving Defibrillator Fundraising For Chandler’s Ford

June 12, 2017 By SO53 News Leave a Comment

GoPhysio in Chandler’s Ford has begun fundraising to buy a defibrillator to give the local community life-saving equipment. With currently over 30,000 people suffering an out of hospital cardiac arrest in the UK every year, 90-95% of these people will die if immediate treatment is not given.

With very few in Chandler’s Ford which are available 24 hours a day, goPhysio felt it was critical for the community to have access day and night. It will be stored on the outside of the clinic meaning anyone can use it in an emergency (address: 11 Bournemouth Road, Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh SO53 3DA).

GoPhysio, who are contributing 50% of £2,200 needed, will be holding events and fundraisers and asking the local community and businesses to donate towards the cause.

Defibrillator

Paul Baker, Clinical Director at goPhysio commented,

In the event of a cardiac arrest, if CPR and defibrillation are provided within 3-5 minutes of collapse, a victim’s chances of survival can increase from 6% to 74%. We have been lucky enough to not have a situation arise so far, but didn’t want that day to come and wish we have invested in one. This could genuinely save lives.

Having a readily available defibrillator in public locations will help to increase survival statistics and will protect those in the area against sudden cardiac arrest.
