Two years ago there was a Scarecrow Festival in Chandler’s Ford, at St. Boniface church.

My research on the Chandler’s Ford War Memorial is progressing well. I have found out quite a lot and thought I would share some of this with you all.
My starting point has been a list complied by Martin Edwards (2006) as part of National project by the Royal British Legion to make a record of all war memorials. The Church of England church in Hursley Road, St Boniface (SO53 2FT), is one of relatively few parish churches locally that has the service of sung Evensong on most Sundays (at 6.30pm).
The Book of Common Prayer is the basis of the service, although the prayers of intercession are in modern language and concentrate on contemporary events and situations. [Read more…] about St. Boniface Church Evensong
The Choir of St. Boniface church, Hursley Road held a coffee morning, cake stall and raffle recently to help raise funds for new books for the Evensong service (most Sundays at 6.30).
Well over £200 was added to the choir’s bank account as a result, and the books will be bought soon.
Last weekend it was my privilege and pleasure to visit Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk for the annual conference and AGM of the Guild of Church Musicians, and particularly so as the Guild was making me one of several new honorary fellows (Hon. FGCM for short).

Centenary of World War One 1914 -1918
Commemorations of the Fallen of World War One will start this year and continue through the next four years until the end of 2018. It is not intended that these commemorations are in any way an attempt to glorify war but rather a way of an acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by millions of people, both military and civilian. At St. Boniface Church this morning, a large wooden cross decked out with daffodils was brought in to the church. It was a beautiful scene.

The Parish of Chandler’s Ford has recently appointed an organ scholar, Sarah Akponasa (a student of Chemistry at the University of Southampton, from Oxford).

People who went to the Crib Service at St. Boniface Church on Christmas Eve may answer “No”.
On Christmas Eve, the traditional family Crib Service was turned into an evening of entertainment, in the form of Who Wants To Be A Christmas Millionaire?
This morning, I attended the Christingle Service at the Parish Church of Chandler’s Ford. The church was packed with local parents and their children. Nearly 100 Christingles were given out.
