I love the Service on Nine Lessons and Carols. I think I’ve been to so many I can pretty much recite the lessons by heart.
Unfortunately I will be at the carol service in Smalltown that evening.

Could you write to share with us what Service on Nine Lessons and Carols are all about, and why you love the service so much? And, can you sing? 🙂

I can sing a bit – at least, I can hold a tune. Not sure I’m so good singing in four-part harmony (plus, I can’t read the bass clef) but I’m OK in a congregation – or so people say.

The nine lessons is pretty much the entire Bible condensed in to nine episodes (OK, a bit of hyperbole there). Starts with Adam and Eve, goes through various foretellings of Christ (“the people who walk in darkness have seen a great light”) then through the nativity story starting with the Angel Gabriel’s visit to foretell the with of John the Baptist; ending with the Birth of Christ). The final lesson is John’s “in the beginning was the word an d the word was with god and the word was god” which no one really understands but it sounds impressive – especially when read from the King James Bible.

Incidentally – a quiz to go with your church photos from a few days ago: one of the lessons starts “In the sixth month the Angel Gabriel came [to visit Mary].” In the sixth month of what?

It’s good to know that you could hold a tune. You clearly have more than one talent. Would you like to join the carol singing here outside Asda on the 16th?

Could you share with us your Christmas tradition – singing, ringing…… in your community or family. Thanks.
