Review: Fairtrade Evening in Chandler’s Ford 2018

November 6, 2018 By Hazel Bateman Leave a Comment

I felt privileged to help with the fantastic Fairtrade evening at St Martin’s on 2 November.

Items for sale included crafts from Leprosy Mission, Eastleigh’s Shop Equality (my husband couldn’t resist buying a baby wooden duck to go with his collection), fairly traded clothing from Nomad, beautiful jewellery made high in the hills in Guatemala and a huge Traidcraft stall. Little Free Library on Desborough Road in Eastleigh

September 20, 2018 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

Summer seems to have gone. According to the BBC, there’ll be rain for many parts tonight, torrential in places. Squally winds in the south. UK flood warnings have been issued.

This morning, however, I saw something heartwarming on my way to work.

Walking past Desborough Road in Eastleigh this morning, I stopped at a house, which has a mini free library in the front garden. [Read more…] about Little Free Library on Desborough Road in Eastleigh

Eastleigh Remembers – Truly Memorable

September 15, 2018 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

Eastleigh is marking the 100th anniversary year of the end of the first world war today. The event pays tribute to Eastleigh’s role in the First World War.

In Eastleigh this afternoon, I visited a re-enactment of a field hospital, some vintage military vehicles, and have seen great displays by charities and businesses, such as Hampshire Scouts, One Community, Defense Medical Welfare Service, British Legion, Eastleigh and District Local History Society, Eastleigh Gurkha Nepalese Association, Royal Air Forces Association, the Rotary Club, Air Cadets, Peter Green, and local author Paul Nolan. Research: Supporting Dementia Carers. Need your Help.

August 24, 2018 By SO53 News 2 Comments

This post is written by Noreena Liu:

I am a PhD student at University of Southampton. Currently, I am researching ways to support dementia carers (people who have a relative affected by dementia). I have created a mock up game. The game shows different messages about dementia and gives advice for dementia family.

Now, I am looking for participants who have any relative with dementia. Participants will be asked to play this game or watch a video for 5 minutes and complete the respective questionnaire. It will take about 10 minute in total.

I will be extremely grateful If you could take part in this research by filling in the questionnaire. [Read more…] about Research: Supporting Dementia Carers. Need your Help.

May 7, 2018 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

Today’s Fryern Funtasia in Chandler’s Ford was fun, as usual, and it was very well managed. Congratulations! I heard a few children fainted due to heat, but hope they have had some rest and are now feeling better. Eastleigh parkrun 400

April 29, 2018 By chippy minton 4 Comments

parkrun - free weekly timed 5km runs

If you were near Fleming Park last Saturday morning (21st April) you might have seen a number of tutu-clad people – both male and female – heading to or from Dragonfly Park.  What was going on?  Was it a flash-mob performance of Swan Lake?  A group of half-hearted entrants to a drag-queen competition?  Take-your-ballet-dancer to work day?

The reason was far more exciting than those possibilities.  It was the occasion of the 400th Eastleigh parkrun, and the event organisers thought that a tutu-wearing event would be a good way to celebrate.  [Read more…] about Eastleigh parkrun 400

Review: April Trio of Plays by Chameleon Theatre Company

April 28, 2018 By Ben Williams 1 Comment

Trio of plays 2018 feature

O, What a Lovers’ War by Karen Ince. Directed by Diana Mills.

The first play was focused on the First World War. This is a period of history I’m quite familiar with, as studying history has helped me understand the different sides of the war. I’m studying the downfall of Tsarist Russia in history and it’s linked with involvement in the First World War and I also recalled visiting Australia and reading up on the ANZAC troops involvement in the War. My mum was confused as to why the Union Flag appeared at the end, but the flag in its current form has existed since 1801. [Read more…] about Review: April Trio of Plays by Chameleon Theatre Company
