New Wooden Train Planter for Chandler’s Ford Disused Platform

December 6, 2016 By SO53 News 2 Comments

Seven volunteers spent 90 minutes cleared the disused platform at Chandler’s Ford last Sunday afternoon.

The aim is to provide a clear area on the old platform where a new wooden train planter provided by Eastleigh Men’s Shed will be placed, on Thursday 8 December 2016.

This is what the Eastleigh Men’s Sheds wooden train planter will look like.

Mark Miller, Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership Officer, said the train planter has been built for the old platform by Eastleigh Men’s Sheds and should be installed on Thursday this week. Mark said, “It is really a cross between a community project, a planter, and a piece of art!”

The disused platform, opposite the existing train platform, has been disused for nearly 50 years. However, Mark Miller told Chandler’s Ford Today that local volunteers clear it from time to time. The idea is that the train becomes a focal point for any passengers waiting for the normal train to Romsey or Eastleigh.
