Marie Curie – Care For A Cuppa

July 5, 2014 By Ray Fishman 3 Comments

Marie Curie Cancer Care Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford Fundraising Group go from strength to strength with the support of the local community.

Following the success of the Great Daffodil Appeal collections in March, the Group had a stall at the St Francis School Fayre last week.

Fundraising at St Francis Primary School

What a great event! Everyone turned out in force on a lovely summer’s evening.

I could hardly believe that we had a queue for our Punch Balloons at one stage. Inflating balloons for 2 hours was demanding work even with a pump. The children were a credit to the school and their parents, so polite and friendly. We hope they have us back next year.

National Garden Scheme: Gardens open for charity

No doubt many of you are aware of the National Gardens Scheme. This scheme opens thousands of outstanding gardens throughout England and Wales to raise money for nursing and caring charities including Marie Curie.

Most of the gardens are private and are not normally open to visitors. Many are in Hampshire.

Our volunteers helped at excellent openings recently. At Blackdown House, Upham last month, I, personally, was allocated the task of ensuring things went smoothly in the “car park” in the field opposite.

How to manage a busy one-way car park (efficiently)?

Have you ever designed a car park from scratch complete with a one way system? No? Neither had I but I was ready for the challenge.

The event proved very popular and within the first hour the car park was full to capacity and I was single-handedly operating a one in one out routine. Even though the country lanes could only just cope with the extra traffic everyone remained patient.

A great day all round and I added another skill to my CV!

Ray you must have a very soothing karma. People tend to get irritable when trying to park.

There are some beautiful gardens around. It is always a pleasure to see the different ways people can use plants for pleasure.

Ray – your ‘one in one out’ traffic management skill is certainly worth mentioning on a CV. Only certain type of people would be brave enough to take up such a task.

Thank you for bringing sunshine and the Blooming Great Tea Party alive to share with us.
