With Syria Community Fundraiser In Chandler’s Ford

August 10, 2014 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

I went to Fryern recreation ground in Chandler’s Ford at lunch time briefly to see how the With Syria Community Fundraiser was getting on.

BBC reported that remnants of Hurricane Bertha to batter UK with rain and high winds.

This morning, I woke up to the sound of rain.

I had a chat with the new Mayor of Eastleigh and mayoress. The Mayor of Eastleigh for the 2014/2015 Municipal Year is Councillor Tony Noyce. The Mayoress is Mrs Janice Noyce.

Nicky Head from Chandler’s Ford is determined and dynamic.

Nicky organised the event to raise awareness in the community about the crisis in Syria, and to raise money for the disaster relief charity ShelterBox.

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities around the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis.

What is the Shelterbox aid?

Tony Trowsdale from SheltexBox showed me the tent he set up this morning.

Each ShelterBox aid is tailored to a disaster.

It typically contains a disaster relief tent for a family, thermal blankets and groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils, a basic tool kit, mosquito nets and a children’s activity pack.

The event was inspiring and fun. I was pleased to have met members from the Chandler’s Ford ‘Random Cow’ Acoustic band. The three musicians are Pat, Mark and Jon, all from Chandler’s Ford.

There were also a puppet show in the park, and a few interesting stalls in the hall.
