The offender/s gained entry into the property through a door at the rear. An untidy search was made of the bedrooms and jewellery was stolen.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who might have been in the area at the time or who might have seen any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area.

The police do their best and have some sophisticated methods but in the end there are so few of them. We seem to be entering a new phase of defence against crime in that we will have to do more for ourselves.
Take the security measures we all know about.
Have you a burglar alarm fitted?
Make sure your Neighbourhood Watch scheme is active and that people know one another, stay vigilant and report odd happenings. Occasionally you might want to show strangers that they have been noticed.
Register your valuables with a site.

In many parts of the US people subscribe to a security firm which will keep an eye on your property and some even boast ‘armed response’ if an alarm is triggered. We do not want to go to this or to any vigilante activities.

When you say Neighbourhood Watch, which organisation do you mean?

I’ve checked online, and there is this group: Eastleigh and Winchester – Hampshire Neighbourhood Watch.

To be honest, though I’ve heard of Neighbourhood Watch, I don’t know who runs it and how it operates, and how to join if we want to. If you have more information, please let us know. Thank you.
