The Sorting Office: Summer Open Studios: 13 -14 June 2015

May 21, 2015 By SO53 News 1 Comment

Don’t miss The Sorting Office’s annual Summer Open Studios on June 13 and 14 (Saturday and Sunday) in Eastleigh town centre.

This is a fantastic opportunity to see behind the scenes of thriving designer-maker studios. You’ll meet 16 artists, watch them at work, take part in demonstrations, and shop for exquisite handcrafted goods and designs.

For the first time the Open Studios will run over two days, opening its doors on Saturday, June 13, from 11am to 5pm. On Sunday, June 14, it opens from 11am to 2pm.

The Sorting Office is a vibrant creative studio home to 16 hugely talented designer makers, including illustrators, textile artists, jewellery designers, fine artists, and ceramicists.

Opened in May 2013 by internationally-renowned designer Wayne Hemingway MBE, The Sorting Office is a place where creative things are made.

Born out of a need for affordable workspace for businesses in the creative sector, the studios were forged from an old postal sorting office in the heart of Eastleigh Town Centre, with assistance from Recreate, a European funding programme that aims to bring empty commercial properties back to life by transforming them into business clusters for artists.

The Sorting Office is now a destination, with each designer-maker and artist in residence creating a wealth of wondrous, often award-winning, designs all showcased from the creative hub.
