One the Christmas day twelve years ago, my one-year-old son received blood transfusion at Southampton General Hospital.
It took the whole night for drops of blood to slowly pump into his tiny body through a little tube.
It was the first medical treatment my son received from the most brilliant team at the Piam Brown Ward, the regional paediatric oncology and haematology centre for the Wessex region.
I saw this Knit one, Save one leaflet in Chandler’s Ford Library. It is not just about knitting. It is more about raising awareness of blood donation, a campaign by NHS Blood and Transplant.
Give Blood – Donating Blood Saves Lives.
Knit one, Save one – Could you help?
“We are looking for enthusiastic knitters to help us raise awareness of blood donation for a campaign we will be running in February 2014. We would like people to knit blood drops for us, of varying sizes to form part of our national campaign.”
You will knit blood drops of varying sizes. For experienced knitters such as Heavenly Knitters in Chandler’s Ford, knitters from the Knitters’ Natters group, and Lesley’s Quirky and Quaint designs team of knitters, blood drops shouldn’t be the most challenging shape to knit.
However, if you are new to knitting, do not panic. You will get knitting patterns and information to help you.
If you can help, email: get.involved@nhsbt.nhs.uk.
You can find out the Give Blood dates in Chandler’s Ford.
I wish you all Happy Knitting!
