Eastleigh’s Christmas Lights Switch on – 21st November 2015

November 21, 2015 By Janet Williams 4 Comments

I was in Eastleigh for a couple of hours today, and guess who I met?

First I was greeted by an emu, then I bumped into Mayor of Eastleigh Councillor Jane Welsh. Christmas must be around the corner as I think I also met one of the Wise Kings (in November)!

Eastleigh has launched the town’s festive celebrations and family fun day today.

The popular annual family fun day includes the switching-on of Eastleigh’s Christmas lights and firework display.

I’m sharing some pictures I took – to show you what a wonderful day it is (though it was bitterly cold).

The Sorting Office: Winter Open Studios

I also visited Winter Open Studios at the Sorting Office.

The Sorting Office is a hidden gem in Eastleigh centre. Make sure you pop in to see the beautiful displays and meet the makers and designers. I always feel inspired there.

The Open Studios will be open on Sunday 22nd November 2015 from 11am to 4pm.

I visited Eastleigh to enjoy the day – not necessary to ‘write a story’. Of course my main aim was to visit the Sorting Office.

But then I saw an emu.

Suddenly the Mayor was walking in front of me with “One Direction” – air cadets 🙂 . Then Lyn appeared with some elves. (The Ramalley Hall fundraisers are active and you see them in most events. Well done!)

It was a bitterly cold day and I have a lot of admiration for all the people running their stalls there. The charity stalls were all manned by volunteers, but the cold winds didn’t seem to deter them.

Parking was not easy today. I managed to find a 2-hour free parking slot. But as I got out of the car, the car behind me just got a ticket for overstaying. Two hours later when I got back to my car, the car was still there – perhaps the owner was having too much fun in town and forgot it was a 2-hour parking bay.

Unfortunately I got there too late in the evening to see the procession. However, we had a welcome warming cup of hot chocolate and chestnuts while we watched the light switch-on and firework display.
