Do you know Chandler’s Ford Girlguiding is building a new centre in Chandler’s Ford, in Ramalley Lane?

They need your support.

Girlguiding Chandler’s Ford Division would like to able to install windows for their new building this summer. Please vote for them to get up up to £25,000 through Aviva Community Fund.

Janet Skiba, Division Commissioner of Girlguiding Chandler’s Ford, said,

“Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. Girlguiding in Chandler’s Ford Division, Hampshire West is flourishing and growing. We have 24 units meeting every week across the Division made up of 5 Rainbow units (5-7 years) 12 Brownie units (7-10) 6 Guide units (10-14) and 1 Senior Section unit (14-26).

Thanks to the dedication, commitment and support of 127 amazing volunteers 609 girls are able to take part in exciting and challenging programmes every week.

Building confidence and raising aspirations

We give girls and young women a space where they can be themselves, have fun, build brilliant friendships, gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities. We build girls’ confidence and raise their aspirations. We work together to ensure that more girls from all backgrounds benefit from what we do.

Our Girlguiding Centre was built in Ramalley Lane, Chandler’s Ford in 1976 and with no permanent heating and damp problems the hall was becoming a cold place to meet! Mobile heaters were not sufficient for the building and the toilets and kitchen needed refurbishing.

In January 2013, a leak in the roof caused part of the suspended ceiling to collapse and with health and safety in mind the building had to be closed. The community groups and units using the hall were all rehoused temporarily to other local school and church halls. Given the condition of the building investing major funds in refurbishing it was not a feasible option.

Building new eco-friendly building for generations of girls

In January 2014, planning permission was obtained from Eastleigh Borough Council to demolish the existing building and to build a new eco-friendly building with state of the art facilities for current and future generations of girls. The new building and green space available will also provide a safe venue for sleepovers, pack holidays, camps and outdoor activities.

We will be involving all sections in exciting projects linked to the rebuilding.

  • Rainbows will plant the wild garden and Brownies will design and plant out the kitchen garden.
  • Guides will complete their Community Action Badge by designing and planting new wildlife areas, making bird and bat boxes for the wooded area.
  • The Senior Section girls will be involved in recycling facilities and planning the interior of the building. We will all be involved in painting.

The budget for the new building is £270,000. To date we have raised through a variety of fundraising activities, grants and funding an amazing £169,000! This allowed us to demolish the old building last summer and to start building the new one this Spring. The money raised will allow us to get the building up and watertight before the autumn.

Currently we are raising £18,000 for the windows and doors. It would be absolutely fantastic if Aviva provided the £18,000. It would be such a boost to the fundraising team, leaders, parents and girls.

I would love to be able to reward all their hard work by providing the funding for the windows and doors from you. Their fundraising efforts could then be concentrated on the remaining £80,000 needed to fit out the building. We are on target to achieve the milestones in our project plan and are looking to be able to open the new building in early 2016.

Help girls discover their full potential

Janet Skiba, Division Commissioner of Girlguiding Chandler’s Ford, said,

Please help me to say thank you to my inspirational leaders who freely give up their time week in week out to do their best for girls and young women. Help us to give girls a chance to discover their full potential by providing them with a great environment locally where they can make a difference to their community. Vote to support Girlguiding Centre Chandler’s Ford: Aviva Community Fund.

The new building will provide a central place in Chandler’s Ford for young girls to meet. More people will hear about Girlguiding and will be inspired to join. More volunteers will join so that we can change more girls’ lives. Please vote for our project. Help us to grow Girlguiding and to give girls a bright future!”
