Yesterday late afternoon on my way home I heard the familiar sound of wheelie bins being pressure-washed in my neighbourhood.
Someone’s bin was being spoilt and their bin would be left cleaned and fragrant (and more superior than mine).
You must have seen the wheelie bin cleaning van in Chandler’s Ford before:
As the van was driving out of the close, I made a brave and rare decision – I stood by my well-loved bin and flagged down the van.
(I don’t normally flag down a random vehicle in the street, ok?)
Adam got out of the van and promptly gave my wheelie bin an instant special treatment.
Adam loaded the bin to the back of his specially equipped vehicle, and in the next few minutes, I watched how my bin was pressure washed, inside out, and ‘perfumed’, and smelt just like a summer breeze afterwards.
Adam happens to be the boss of the ecowheeliebin business, Hampshire’s biggest independent wheelie-bin cleaning company.
Adam is from Hedge End. He told me he started the business in 1999. He used to work for Red Funnel, and later engage in property selling, but later decided to grow this wheelie bin cleaning business.
Adam said the chemical they use for cleaning is ‘enzyme-based’ and the chemical is completely harmless to the surrounding area, pets, etc.
They also use Southern Water approved method to dispose of the waste water.
In just a few minutes, My bin was spoilt, deep cleaned, and smelling fresh with a VIP treatment.
It does make me feel rather happy.
You all know I don’t normally ‘advertise’ businesses on the site (and my bin doesn’t get any more preferential treatment than yours with this review, and I don’t get a commission either), but a happy wheelie bin makes a happy webmaster. I’m sure your happy webmaster will make Chandler’s Ford Today better.

I used this company when I lived in Eastleigh and think it is money well spent. Wheelie bins never empty completely and get very dirty and smelly at the bottom. And being a large and awkward shape they are not easy to clean out.
Would also add that the 12-month charge covers 12 cleans, not necessarily in a 12-month period. So if you are away one week and you bin isn’t emptied for cleaning, you don’t get charged for that week.

Just to say I used to clean the bin myself, well, once in a while. My arms are never long enough to reach the bottom of the bin, and I don’t have a hose in the garden to do the job. Fetching buckets of water from the kitchen to clean the bin and half an hour later, the garden is flooded, the kitchen floor is wet, and I smell.
Years ago I used to use a similar service for a short while, but it was not that reliable and payment was a hassle.
I sprinkle something called a Bin Buddy in my bin and it is supposed to kill odour and flies, but so far it’s not good enough. A couple of years ago the sight of maggots in the bin was terrifying.
I believe my £35 will be well spent.

Good to know something simple makes you happy!
This morning I feel virtuous because I cleaned out the plughole in the shower.
