From Eastleigh Police:

Eastleigh Police Station on Leigh Road will soon be closing.

The Station was built in 1924 – when it was moved from Southampton Road to Leigh Road some 95 years ago. It has become a huge part of local history and will be surely missed.

As you may know, #Eastleigh #Police #Station will soon be closing.

During my childhood days 1939-1950 (in Chandler’s Ford) there was only one policeman there and if I remember correctly he was a PC. Longman
who had tacit consent or authority from many a hard pressed mother with hubbie more often than not in the pub to deal with the more recalcitrant boy or ‘nipper’ in local parlance by ‘ givinim a clip around the earole’ or sometimes ‘lugole’.
His method of patrolling on his beat which in fact was the entire village was to slowly walk along the road close to the pavement pushing his very heavy and upright bicycle with standard police issue cape slung over his shoulder. The purpose of the bike was to be able to ‘respond immediately to emergencies ‘ and to go home when he was feeling tired!

A sense of pride in the picture of the builders and perhaps in the picture of those who used the building.
I do hope the authorities will put this building to good use.

That should have read ‘Where will the nearest manned Police Station BE when Eastleigh closes’ … sorry, just put it down to ‘senility’ … keep smiling

Thank you for that Janet … all looks very nice, but there doesn’t appear to be any mention of ‘cells’ … looks as though I might have to look elsewhere to ‘spend a night’
