How did your weekend go today?
I had a quick tour from Chandler’s Ford to Brambridge and had a rather enjoyable day.
If you want to know what I got up to today, read on.
Wedding Dress Festival at the Methodist Church
First I dragged my poor husband along to see the Wedding Dress Festival with me this morning at the Methodist Church.
More than 50 wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses were on display, together with marriage certificates and precious wedding photographs.
You got to see the history of Chandler’s Ford through the wonderful display.
Chandler’s Ford historian Barbara Hillier, for example, has a table showing the wedding tradition of several generations in her family.
The display is still available tomorrow (Sunday) from 12pm to 5pm.
Brambridge Craft Market: near the goats
Brambridge Craft Market is one of my favourite local craft markets.
Today the signposting to the craft fair was spot on: Near the goats.
Crafters Jackie Edmunds, the craft market organiser, and Sian Hayden from Rosey Glow Jewellery were having fun doing wet felting.
I also met crafter Meryn French, and Alison Hackman from The Crafty Panda.
Chandler’s Ford honey
On our way back, we stopped over at Bay Leaves Larder on Hiltingbury Road.
My husband bought a jar of Hampshire Honey (£6.75), made by Hugh Sykes from Lakewood Road in Chandler’s Ford.
I wonder why he needed yet another honey, as we have got Eastleigh honey, Fairtrade honey, and also some honey from France.
He told me he just loves having a wide variety of honey.
Girlguiding annual summer fete
Girlguiding Chandler’s Ford held its annual summer fete at St. Boniface Church on Hursley Road.
It was such a popular event – cream teas, raffle, and games. Fantastic atmosphere.

The wedding dress exhibition sounds really interesting – wish I could have been there!
We travelled to our caravan on Friday and arrived for lunch, followed by a good dog-walk on the heath where we definitely heard (and possibly saw) a nightjar. It is unusual to hear one during the day.
Friday evening was spent socialising and having a sauna and swim. On Saturday, we planted four shrubs and carried out some simple ‘gardening tasks’ on site, followed by a long walk on the heath and a super 60s-themed disco in the evening run by one of the club members, complete with a hot-dog supper. Janet would have liked the huge colourful tissue-paper pompoms that were attached to the ceiling.
Sunday morning was given over to routine cleaning and maintenance of the caravan (when you have a caravan there is usually something to mend and always something to clean!!), followed by another long walk and a session weeding the boules court and cutting back some cheeky ivy that was trying to grow into the shower block. As the A31 was closed for hours owing to an accident, we did not set off for home until late, but arrived back tired and happy at 10.00 pm.
