REMINDER: Book Fair – 28th October 2017

October 27, 2017 By Allison Symes 5 Comments

This is just a quick reminder about the Chandler’s Ford Book Fair happening this coming Saturday, 28th October at the Age Concern Centre in Brownhill Road. The Fair will be open from 10 am to 12 noon and there will be a wide range of authors and genres represented.

Book Fair – there will be a wide range of books at the Fair. Hope to see some of you there!

Given, sadly, Chandler’s Ford no longer has an independent book shop, all of us taking part in the Fair hope that this event will make it easier for local people (and others) to browse through a good selection of books. We are also hoping this event will become more regular but we do need your support for that to happen!

The poster above only shows some of the authors and books in the Fair as there simply wasn’t room to put them all on! This is a lovely problem to have in many ways and the solution to it? Come along to the Fair and meet the authors you do know about, thanks to the poster, and meet those who are not on there! We would all be glad to see you.

Many of the authors, including me, will be offering special offers on their books. (Discounted rate for buying two copies etc).

Advantages of the Book Fair

You get to meet and chat to many more writers in one go than you would at a normal signing or other event. We would also be pleased to meet other writers and many of us can give information about creative writing classes and festivals so if you would like to know more, do come and ask.

Creative Writing Classes – this links back to a previous CFT post of mine but there are classes available in the local area. Do come to the Fair and ask!

I like the fact so many genres, including non-fiction, will be represented here. There should be a book for most people here so do come and see if there is at least one for you or those on your book buying for Christmas list.

And if you have never or rarely consider books as presents, come and discover more. Books are a wonderful form of entertainment (and this goes for non-fiction too) and given you get to keep them, they work out remarkably cheaply. I can’t tell you how long I’ve had some of the books on my shelves but re-readings every so often, to me, can be like meeting up again with friends I haven’t seen for a while.

One of the things I love about Christmas is that lovely period of time to curl up with a good book in front of a nice fire and to totally unwind as a result. Am I hoping for books in my Christmas stocking? Of course!  (And I may well get a chance to start my Christmas present shopping on Saturday too…!).

About Allison Symes

I'm a published flash fiction and short story writer, as well as a blogger. My fiction work has appeared in anthologies from Cafelit and Bridge House Publishing.

My first flash fiction collection, From Light to Dark and Back Again, was published by Chapeltown Books in 2017.

My follow-up, Tripping the Flash Fantastic, was published by Chapeltown Books in 2020.

I adore the works of many authors but my favourites are Jane Austen, P.G. Wodehouse and Terry Pratchett.

I like to describe my fiction as fairytales with bite.

Hi Allison, a great article and overview. Thank you. We’re all very excited about Saturday. Our plans are coming together. Final preparations are being made. So far as we know, this will be the first Book Fair in Chandler’s Ford. It will be lovely to see all the writers with their books. We hope many people will visit us at this fun, free family event. A wonderful variety of books to buy, early stocking-fillers – for “you know what”… perhaps. Writers will be happy chat, sign their books, answer questions about writing, publishing and so on. Plus, of course, there will be quizzes, games and prizes.

    Kind Regards.

Many thanks, Karen. Looking forward to the Fair immensely. Should be fun. I hope it might lead on to other events like this, especially given the lack of bookshops. Fairs like this give additional outlets for writers which are helpful to us all.

Hope you are all having a great day. Sorry not to be there to cheer you on.
Brenda has worked wonders with the IT here. it has been a frustrating 2 days getting it going but if you are reading this, it works.
    Wishing you a successful day.
