I used to dread going to Winchester, whether to the hospital or to the shops, because I am not someone who enjoys sitting in traffic queues, and parking at Winchester hospital is a nightmare, unless you arrive before 8.30am.
However, now that I have discovered Park and Ride (South) I really enjoy all my trips into Winchester, as it is so quick, pleasant and efficient!
The other two Park and Ride places fill up quite early in the day, but the South Winchester Park and Ride is HUGE and always has plenty of spaces.
There are three bus stops within the area, so no long walk to the car carrying heavy shopping, and the central one has a glass-fronted indoor waiting room – handy on wet, windy or wintry days.
It also has nice clean toilets. If you arrive after 10.30, the fare is only £2.50 for the whole day (compare that with what you have to pay in the city centre car parks)! This includes your passengers.
The buses are about every 15 minutes and the bus drivers are always helpful, pleasant and considerate. I have even known one driver who stopped to pick up passengers who ran towards the bus between stops in the car park!
To reach this Park and Ride from Chandler’s Ford, you can either drive up the M3 (the exit is clearly marked) or, if you don’t fancy the motorway, drive up through Otterbourne, turn right at the roundabout when you reach the main road, and Park and Ride is the last turning off the next roundabout.
EASY!
