Chandler’s Ford Today Needs Your Feedback

November 29, 2015 By Janet Williams 5 Comments

You may find today that I have removed the old header of Chandler’s Ford Today.

This was the old header I created two years ago.

Chandlers-Ford-Today-spring-header.jpg

Now the header is much simpler.

It features the site name Chandler’s Ford Today, with a small picture of red branches in winter.

However, this is a temporary header. I would like you to help me create a new header for this website.

1) Do you want a local picture representing Chandler’s Ford Today? If so, which picture do you think we should use? Fryern Arcade, Hiltingbury Lakes…?

2) Do you want to see a logo representing Chandler’s Ford Today? If so, what kind of logo is good?

3) Could you help me think of a tagline for this website? A tagline is a short phrase that explains the purpose of this site.

This is a self-hosting Chandler’s Ford community website created out of love in March 2013.

Now this site has published 870 posts, with 10 regular writers and contributors. And our content is getting stronger each day.

I need your help to make this website stronger and better.

Today I need you to brainstorm with me how this site should look and feel.

Please leave your comment and share your view.

Thank you.

Like the style. Suggest we change the picture every month to keep people interested. Maybe request people to send in pictures for the banner.

Agree with Mike on this one, Janet. Can show Chandler’s Ford through the seasons then.

        Mike and Allison,

Many thanks for your idea. If we update the header often, we need many people, especially local photographers, to help us.

We need a clear header, so that people who visit the site will know what to expect.

Reference A Local Picture … I like Mike Sedgwick’s idea, however, if it is to be a ‘permanent’ picture, and as an ex resident of Chandler’s Ford, I believe it needs to be something that is recognisable by both current residents and ex residents … for that reason, I consider Janet’s suggestion of Hiltingbury Lake an excellent choice, as it is one of the few landmarks, if not the only one, that has remained unchanged (well, hardly changed) over the years, and probably not likely to change much in the years to come …

Reference A Logo … If indeed considered necessary, it is something that requires a lot of thought, as I believe it would need to encompass each and every section and interests of the community … not an easy one I feel, the danger being to ‘offend’ by omission …

Reference A Tag Line … Although in sales and marketing virtually all of my working life, I have to confess this one is outside my area of expertise … this is a great site, but a complex one, covering many aspects of the Chandler’s Ford Community … one for the experts I think …

Possibly not altogether helpful Janet, but at least you have my thoughts …

    Keep smiling all …

      Doug,

      Many thanks for your suggestions.

Chandler’s Ford is a place without a landmark, so it is very hard to agree with a ‘permanent’ picture representing the area. I’m pleased you like my idea of Hiltingbury Lake. I think the lake will definitely be a strong feature.

When I say we don’t have a ‘landmark’, I mean we don’t have a place where tourists (well, do we have any tourists here?) would think “Mm, I must explore the famous XXX in Chandler’s Ford.” We have a library (architecturally interesting), a war memorial (historically interesting), and a few pockets of shopping areas.

As to a ‘logo’ for this site, it is quite hard to decide. I’ve had a few ideas, but they don’t look right. My idea is having a symbol for strong connection.

Again, a tagline is difficult to settle as it needs to be neat, and catchy and it needs to encompass the spirit of what we do – connecting people and building a strong and compassionate community.

      Keep brainstorming!

I would also love to hear what other people think.
