Remembrance Sunday in Chandler’s Ford 2018

November 11, 2018 By Janet Williams 3 Comments

There was a rainbow in the morning and the rain stopped for the Remembrance parade and services.

At the Chandler’s Ford war memorial, a crowd of hundreds – from veterans to youth groups, families, and people of different ethnic groups – all gathered to pay their respects.

Hursley Road looked like this in 1918 (peace day celebration), and 1989. [Read more…] about Remembrance Sunday in Chandler’s Ford 2018

November 10, 2018 By SO53 News 5 Comments

Andy Vining’s family farmed the North and South Millers Dale and surrounding areas for over 100 years, living in Hiltonbury Farmhouse until 1976. Last week Andy dropped off a pile of old photographs of Chandler’s Ford for us to share with readers.

These photos have been organised systematically by Andy’s family – comparing old and new scenes at roughly the same location.

You can click to enlarge the photos to get better views. [Read more…] about Chandler’s Ford Saturday Guessing Game (17)

Review: Fairtrade Evening in Chandler’s Ford 2018

November 6, 2018 By Hazel Bateman Leave a Comment

I felt privileged to help with the fantastic Fairtrade evening at St Martin’s on 2 November.

Wallflowers can be planted now, providing foliage ground cover all winter, and fragrance and colour next spring. Continue planting spring flowering bulbs.

Cut back herbaceous perennials that have died down. Split and divide older clumps of overgrown perennials. Prune climbing and rambling roses now and tie in stems to prevent damage in high winds. [Read more…] about October Gardening Tips by Wellie

A Walk for Adam – from Chandler’s Ford to Winchester Cathedral

August 24, 2018 By Janet Williams 12 Comments

This morning we joined our friends Mike and Alison Standing, together with Deborah Hockney (Alison’s sister) and her family on A Walk for Adam.

The walk aims to raise awareness of the high level of suicide that occurs in our society, especially amongst younger men, which seems to get hidden from view from the general public.

The 40-mile walk started from Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church this morning, and will spread over 4 days. Today we completed our first day’s walk and arrived at Winchester Cathedral. Friends and families will continue the rest of the journey over the next 3 days. [Read more…] about A Walk for Adam – from Chandler’s Ford to Winchester Cathedral
