Platinum Jubilee Flower Festival at St Martin in the Wood Church

June 26, 2022 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

Did you go and see the Platinum Jubilee Flower Festival at St Martin in the Wood Church last week? I’m glad I did. I went there at the weekend and was amazed by the talent in our parish. Members from the parish church have taken such a lot of effort to create a memorable, beautiful week, and have spread joy in the community.

Roy Lancaster and his wife Sue officially opened the event on the 21st of June.

I’m touched by the enthusiasm and passion of the people who made this event such a remarkable success. The flower festival has clearly shown the Queen’s reign in a respectful and creative way, through intricate tableaux and stunning flower displays. Not only that, there were hidden corgis to be found, handwritten notes, photographs, arts, children’s work… all about Her Majesty the Queen and her long reign.

Each exhibit is a beautiful story, showing different aspects of her Majesty’s reign.

Can you name the plants used on the purple robe of Estate (Imperial Robe)?

I hear that the event was a great success. Unfortunately difficult circumstances prevented me from attending at any time, but my wife was able to help on several occasions. I hear that the Songs of Praise was well attended, and that members of St Boniface Church Choir (of which I am director) were able to attend and reinforce the singing from among the congregation. Much hard work went into the whole event, and I am pleased that I had been able to play some part in the preparation of the Songs of Praise service.
