Sally’s Poem: Happy Birthday Mum

February 25, 2014 By Sally Owens 2 Comments

Note from Janet: Sally Owens from Chandler’s Ford was severely head injured at 19 years old. 30 years later, Sally is still slowly recovering.

Sally is gifted with words.

Sally shares her first poem with us today. There are more to come.

Happy Birthday Mum by Sally Owens

I know that I do not deserve,
The best Mum on this earth,
But you’ve been giving to me every day,
Since the day you gave me birth.

You gave me faith and manners,
In my heart you put a song,
Long before I knew my right from left,
I knew my right from wrong.

I loved your tidy kitchen,
With the red and yellow tiles,
Where you cooked us little dinners,
Which were always served with smiles.

I remember coming home from school,
Always desperate for the loo,
But the main reason I galloped home,
Was to share my day with you.

Thank you for always being there,
Encouraging good habits,
One of the best things in my childhood,
I thank you for the rabbits.

Thanks for your belief in me,
You planted the hard work seed,
You are everything I wanted,
And everything I need.

Things got much tougher later on,
We wondered if I’d pull through,
But everything that’s good in me,
I owe it all to you.

      Hi Josette,

I’ll pass on your message to Sally when I see her next time.

Sally has moved away so I haven’t seen her for some time.

      All the best to you.
