February 4, 2023 By SO53 News 2 Comments

There has been quite a lot of changes at Fryern Hill. Banks have disappeared, shops are closing, businesses are moving elsewhere……Here are just a few examples.

Lloyds Bank closed. Any idea what is going to replace it? Too much to hope that it might be a bank, I suppose! Whe we moved to Chandlers Ford 35 years agon Lloyds had 2 branches and there were 5 or 6 other banks.

The butchers in Fryern Arcade closed. Originally it used to be across the road.

Bill had his hardware shop next to where Costa now is. There used to be an excellent small independent bookshop in Fryern Arcade. Now you can’t buy new books in Chandlers Ford from a specialist shop.

The jewellers in the far corner of Fryern Arcade became a hairdressers.

    The list goes on!

Yes the list goes on, Richard. I do remember the bookshop too. I really enjoyed that bookshop and chatting with the owner. What a shame we lost the bookshop.
