A Walk for Adam

August 1, 2018 By SO53 News Leave a Comment

Over the August bank holiday weekend, Mike and Alison Standing will be joining Deborah Hockney (Alison’s sister) and her family (Gabriella and Joel) on ‘A Walk for Adam’, to raise awareness of the high level of suicide that occurs in our society, especially amongst younger men, which seems to get hidden from view from the general public.

The 40 mile walk will start from Chandler’s Ford Methodist Church on Friday 24th August and head towards Winchester, taking in parts of St. Swithin’s way, and the Wayfarer’s walk. Other members of the Hockney / Standing families will join in the walk along the way.

The aim is to celebrate Adam’s life on the eve of what would have been his 40th birthday, and raise money for the following charities:

1) Mind, which supports people with mental health issues.

2) Perennial, a gardening charity for horticultural workers, who have supported Adam’s three young sons.

3) Earthtime for All, a charity in North Scotland that Deborah co-founded and works to promote outdoor, environmental activities for young families, to encourage stronger family bonds and physical and mental well-being.

How to donate

Donations can be made on the Just Giving website for A Walk for Adam. You may also wish to give any donations to Alison and Mike at the Methodist Church.

Adam – the very talented Redbeard

Adam was an incredibly talented Youtuber and was known by fans as Redbeard, in the “reactor” community. Reactors are people who film themselves reacting to a program or computer game they are watching or playing. One of Adam’s fans created this beautiful tribute to him in 2016.

Note:

The Samaritans provides advice on what to do if someone finds they are struggling themselves, or sees another person having difficulties.
