10th Anniversary Of Chandler’s Ford Railway Station Re-opening – 13 October 2013

August 16, 2013 By Janet Williams 1 Comment

Chandler’s Ford railway station is going to celebrate its 10th year birthday since its re-opening 10 years ago. The celebration will be on Sunday 13 October 2013 between 1pm and 4pm at the station.

A lot of people use Chandlers Ford Railway Station to travel into Romsey, Eastleigh and Southampton, as well as further afield.

The free car park at the station is certainly a bonus.

Do you know that Chandler’s Ford station is not just a station? It also has a wonderful second-hand book service, where you can buy books, CDs and cards, and there is also a station coffee stall run by volunteers. Chandler’s Ford railway station is also a meeting point for many local leisure walks and cycle rides.

In order to celebrate the success of Chandlers Ford railway station, the Three Rivers Rail Partnership will be holding a 10th anniversary celebration event on Sunday 13 October 2013, from 1pm to 4pm, at the station. The event will include school art competitions, children’s entertainment, quizzes, local nature walks and cycle rides, cycle maintenance workshops and much more. The Partnership’s volunteers, who have helped keep the station clean and tidy over the past few years, would also like to encourage the local community to get involved in the celebrations by:

  • Providing craft, art or food stalls on the day to demonstrate Chandler’s Ford’s local talents
  • Providing any memories or photographs of the old or new Chandler’s Ford Station for a public exhibition in the booking office
  • In the spirit of the Great British Bake Off, coming up with a new Chandler’s Ford cake, which incorporates local history, ingredients or a unique Chandler’s Ford character.
  • Helping out with the planning or running of the event on the day.

If you have any other ideas for this celebration, or if you would like to get involved with this event in other ways, please contact Mark Miller, Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership Officer on 07900 103296 or markmiller10@tiscali.co.uk or the Three Rivers Rail Facebook page.
