In my recent post about Books, Movies, and Music, which was a joy to write, I focused on the link between classical music and films/stories on which the movies are based. For this post, I thought I’d take a look at those stories which have inspired wonderful TV series, with superb themes bringing them to life musically.

Local Author News: Richard Hardie and Doctor Who by Allison Symes

August 29, 2020 By Allison Symes Leave a Comment

Local YA author, Richard Hardie, is delighted to announce that his novel, Leap of Faith, the first in his Temporal Detective Series, is now being advertised on the online edition of Doctor Who magazine.

Well done, Richard! Both the print and online versions of the magazine have a big “reach” so being able to get the word out to readers about a time travelling detective agency to fans of the most famous time travelling show is a very good move!

Happy New Year!

Letting Time Get On With It

I must admit the days when I saw the New Year in are long gone… I take the view now Time can get on without me nicely thank you while I have a decent sleep! After all, it does for the rest of the year.

What the New Year brings me is a new calendar and I usually go for a Border Collie one. The one I’ve got for 2020 has a picture of my favourite breed of dog for every day of the year, guaranteed to put a smile on my face every day of the year too!

Time Management and Time Travel

November 16, 2018 By Allison Symes 6 Comments

Feature Image - Time Management

I don’t know about you but time management is one of those things I always seek to get better at, given there is plenty I’d like to do (especially in writing) but there are still only 24 hours in any one day!

I like my lists, my calendar has plenty of notes scribbled all over it, and by the end of the week, I’ve usually achieved a reasonable amount of what I set out to do. I’ve learned to carve up bigger tasks (like editing my novel) into smaller chunks and accept there are simply some tasks that can’t be done all at once, no matter how much I’d like to do so! The Doctor Who Experience by Allison Symes

The Doctor Who Experience by Allison Symes

I’ve loved Doctor Who since I was a child. I was gripped by the stories, terrified by the Daleks (while at the same time enjoying every moment of being terrified!) and couldn’t wait to tune in to the following week’s edition.

As I was growing up you had one story spread over several parts and it seemed an age before I was to find out if Tom Baker, “my Doctor”, was going to pull the leads apart that would lead to the destruction of the Daleks in Genesis of the Daleks. Why Are The Daleks So Popular?

August 30, 2014 By Ben Williams 1 Comment

Daleks

The new Doctor Who episode Into the Dalek will be shown tonight and I am excited! Why shouldn’t I be? It’s Doctor Who! But many people have stated that it is too early to introduce the Daleks to Capaldi’s Doctor two episodes into the series.

I’m optimistic though, after all, every single Doctor (except the Eighth) have faced the Daleks [Read more…] about Why Are The Daleks So Popular?

Doctor Who Series 8 Episode 1 Review

August 26, 2014 By Ben Williams 6 Comments

Capaldi new Doctor

After 8 months of waiting, Doctor Who Series 8 has hit the television with Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth (or the 13th if you count John Hurt, or the 14th if you count John Hurt and the second David Tennant) Doctor. So how good is his 75 minute long opener Deep Breath?

Also, spoilers incoming. All my reviews will be in-depth, so make sure you watch the episode first. [Read more…] about Doctor Who Series 8 Episode 1 Review

My Doctor Who Series 8 Anticipation

August 14, 2014 By Ben Williams Leave a Comment

Doctor Who 12th Doctor new series

Ladies and gentlemen, it is 9 days until Series 8 airs, and all around the world Whovians are counting the days until Capaldi’s Doctor brings his own take to the Doctor.

But how much do we know about the series?

Well, unlike last year where returning monsters and plots were revealed months in advance, this series [Read more…] about My Doctor Who Series 8 Anticipation

An Eventful Day To Shakespeare’s Globe

July 27, 2014 By Ben Williams 6 Comments

Shakespeare's Globe theatre Julius Caeser - wearing rain poncho.

So it’s the summer holiday with my most anticipated movie of the year (Guardians of the Galaxy) days away and my favourite TV show (Doctor Who, like you didn’t know that) 28 days away, it’s pretty much confirmed that this holiday will be awesome.

Last Friday the awesomeness started when my mum and I went to London for a pretty eventful day. [Read more…] about An Eventful Day To Shakespeare’s Globe

The Three Kinds of Whovians

April 12, 2014 By Ben Williams 4 Comments

What kind of Whovian are you?

I was in Winchester today with my mum and I noticed several signs advertising a Doctor Who event.

When mum asked if I wanted to go, I said no. This puzzled her, as she thought as a fan, I would want to go. I then explained to her what I call the three kinds of Whovians: [Read more…] about The Three Kinds of Whovians

Doctor Who and Religion

March 21, 2014 By Ben Williams 7 Comments

As it’s Lent time, I decided to talk about my favourite show combined with one of my favourite times of the year.

It’s obvious that the Doctor has some similarities with Jesus, in particular the resurrection and regeneration of both characters. But there’s a lot more about the Doctor, and the show, which links in with religion.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this [Read more…] about Doctor Who and Religion

People I Want To Meet

February 28, 2014 By Ben Williams 9 Comments

Isn’t meeting someone you’ve always wanted to meet just so cool? Not just celebrities, but people from the past or fictional characters like Batman? Imagine how cool it would be to meet Batman!

But today, I’m going to be talking about people who I’ve always wanted to meet. And luckily, I’ve met a few! OK, only two. Technically three. [Read more…] about People I Want To Meet
