Lockdown Afternoon Tea

June 17, 2020 By chippy minton 4 Comments

In recent years, afternoon tea has become the new decadence, being offered at a number of cafes and tea shops.

The Blackbird Café at Fleming Park’s Pavilion on the Park has come up with a great way to put our love of cake, sandwiches and tea (but mostly cake) to good use during lockdown: offering a takeaway afternoon tea to help fund a lunch club on wheels service for people who are isolated during the pandemic and might not otherwise get a hot meal.

Order online and the meal can either be collected from the café, or delivered to the Eastleigh area for a small additional charge.  Different areas are served on different days (see image, above, or check the website for latest information).

We ordered ours last weekend, and it was scrumptious.  A wonderful selection of fresh sandwiches, cake, scone with jam and clotted cream, and even tea bags.  Gluten-free and vegan options are available.

This is a bit controversial in the Chippy household – jam on cream or cream on jam?

Definitely gets the Chippy Seal of Approval

What a great way to raise money for a good cause.  What better way to celebrate Father’s Day (hint to the teenagers)?

About chippy minton

I've lived in Chandler's Ford and Eastleigh for most of my working life, with interspersed with a few years in north-west Hampshire (though remaining a regular visitor to the area).

I work in IT, and my hobbies include bell ringing, walking and cycling. I am also a self-confessed “born-again runner” having discovered parkrun in 2015.

I enjoy live theatre and music, and try to watch many of the shows that are performed in the Eastleigh area.

I wouldn’t mind receiving a social-distancing tea party invite to Eastleigh!

I had this message through from my U3A I don’t think it applies during lockdown. You can’t get into their website to order and I’ve phoned and left messages to no avail!! Be interested to see if anyone has more luck than I did

It is operating; we had ours last weekend. The website is not easy, but it may depend on which browser you are using.

It is o.k. on Google Chrome …

In passing, my mother, Dorothy Clews, was Manageress of the Tea Rooms back in the days when Harry Thornton was Head Groundsman … she was ably assisted by Mrs. Bunker and Mary, whose surname I’m afraid I cannot recall.

I was a member of the Adastrians Hockey Club, and the Park was our home ground for many years, and many enjoyable teas were had.

        Stay safe …
