June is a busy and rewarding month in the garden—little and often is the key. Deadhead roses and early perennials to keep flowers coming, and stake taller plants like delphiniums before they flop. Hoe borders regularly to keep weeds down and retain moisture. Water deeply a few times a week rather than little and often.

Harvest lettuce, radishes, and strawberries frequently, and start feeding tomatoes weekly while pinching out side shoots. Earth up potatoes and put supports in place for beans and peas. Mow lawns weekly, but raise the height in dry weather. Consider leaving a small patch longer for wildlife, in line with Plantlife’s nature-friendly approach. Keep bird baths topped up and add nectar-rich plants for pollinators.
Ventilate greenhouses daily and water containers well.

Take time to enjoy it. June is one of the garden’s finest months.
