The Magical Picture Framing Shop in Chandler’s Ford

January 7, 2014 By Janet Williams 9 Comments

My son and I walked for 35 minutes to get to The Picture Framing Shop in Chandler’s Ford last week.

The walk in the cold weather was worth it as we bought everything we needed for my son’s major art project for a mask.

The young and energetic owner of the shop, Niki Jenkins, was very helpful. She inspired us with mask-making ideas and showed us a wonderful collection of paints, mask templates, tissue, decopatch papers, kits, and patterns in her shop.

The Picture Framing Shop is a much loved traditional family run business in Chandler’s Ford. It is a magical shop for kids and adults. You find wonders in every corner of the shop. It has everything you need for crafts, fine arts, needlecraft products, frames and gifts.

In particular, The Picture Framing Shop is renowned for its unique and quality framing service. Many years ago, I owned a piece of delicate art work printed on silk cloth, and it was beautifully framed by the brilliant framer with a magic touch.

This lovely shop has been serving the community for about 30 years. Sadly, its owner Andrew Street passed away on August 30th 2012, aged only 62 years.

Now Andy and Jan Street’s daughter Niki and her husband Dean are running the shop. On the shop windows, there is still a touching message from Andy to his loyal customers in Chandler’s Ford:

“To all my loyal customers,

Andy's letter: "It's been a pleasure serving you all..."
Andy’s letter: “It’s been a pleasure serving you all…”

As most of you probably already know, I have departed on a mountain trek beyond the clouds!

I just want to say Thank you for all of your custom and support over the past 28 years, my last wish is that you give my Family the same support over the next 28 years.

It’s been a pleasure serving you all. I’m only sorry that it couldn’t have been for longer. My daughter and son in law will continue to the run the shop in the custom you’ve come to expect.

Wish best wishes,
Andy

You can see a lot of beautiful pictures from the shop on their Facebook page: The Picture Framing Shop – Chandler’s Ford.

Finally, my son has completed his art project and I am truly thankful for the inspiration and the art supply from this shop of wonder. In my next post, I’ll show you more stunning pictures of The Picture Framing Shop.

it is indeed a fantastic shop – a real Aladdin’s cave. There is something for everyone there – even people like me who have no artistic bone in their body.

I think Aladdin’s Cave sums up this lovely shop quite well and I’m going to borrow this metaphor in my next post. People without artistic bone in their body could still go there with their credit card. There is something for everyone. You can buy unique gifts there. Kids would love you.

It is a wonderful shop with an amazing range of products. I can always find something to buy for members of my arty crafty family. I bought a polished ammonite and some interesting and unusual beads for jewellery making a couple of weeks ago. This shop has an excellent range of paints for artists too, and the quality of the framing is brilliant!

Indeed. I struggled not to buy in this shop. As a papercrafter, I love the colour, its wide selection of cards and tools. I would love to see more of your jewellery next time. I love the one I bought from you last time.

Hey it’s been too many years since someone commented 🙂 I went in there for the first time, as I’m not familiar with Chandler’s Ford but I’ve been exploring it now and again in the last few years and I really love it, back in May or June I think it was. So glad I walked up that hill that day and stumbled on it, and that I looked beyond the frames – as I didn’t have any framing needs – to step inside and have a look at the notebooks / journals I saw through the window. That was when I discovered the most magical shop that I’ve been in in many years, it has to be a favourite. And to think it’s existed for so long! I’m guessing in more recent years they’ve developed it to be more than the framing business with the art gallery upstairs, the art supplies and art classes downstairs, but either way, it’s just… yeah, best way to describe it is, a treasure trove! The only thing I’d say is that the framing, although evidently good for business, as it’s been going for so long and continues to serve the community, many other people might not think to pull in or look inside unless they have a need for frames, whereas there’s so much more that you just don’t realise. I think a lot of the kids would appreciate what they’d find in there too, if they knew, but maybe it’s not so much of a problem if it goes undiscovered by this age group, my generation, and I certainly feel good knowing about this place for myself. The staff, Niki and Dean, are so polite and friendly, and the in-house artist downstairs, Frith, is a magic maker. She’s awesomeness personified. Will be back soon, would like to explore more the art side of things, maybe take some classes. I also noticed some very cool things downstairs that I’d buy, even just for the novelty of it, and to support the shop. Will return this week, in fact, as I want to get a couple of art supplies to spark something off, and this will be my go-to source forever now, when it comes to art materials, and frames – if I ever need it. I won’t need to go elsewhere, that’s for sure.

Nice post, Janet. Didn’t notice Andy’s letter to loyal customers when I was there, or know the history, but that’s so touching. Makes me like the place even more. Love!
