Could You Help? Researching the History of the Brick Making Industry in Chandler’s Ford

New residents of Chandler’s Ford may be surprised to hear that 120 years ago this leafy suburb of Eastleigh was the centre of a thriving brick making industry. Around 1895 there were four distinct areas of activity. These were sited near the following modern day roads.

1) Guildford Drive, Velmore Road.
2) Common Road, Common Close, Carne Close.
3) Julius Close.

Velmore Centre: The Big Event – 20th August to 3 September 2017

Velmore Church is launching a fortnight of events from Sunday 20th August to Sunday 3rd September 2017, at Velmore Centre.

Last month, while waiting for the bus, I noticed a bright yellow object on the outside wall of the Methodist Church.

It contains a piece of life-saving equipment, a defibrillator.

Otterbourne - Chandler's Ford bypass

In these days when the roar of motorway noise disturbs the peace of the otherwise tranquil suburb of Chandler’s Ford, it is hard to imagine the excited anticipation with which residents awaited the building of the Chandler’s Ford by-pass back in the 1960s.
