Remembrance Sunday in Chandler’s Ford: 8 November 2015

November 11, 2015 By Janet Williams 2 Comments

On Remembrance Sunday on the 8th of November in 2015, people from Chandler’s Ford remembered and honoured the fallen.

180 people assembled outside St. Boniface Church at the Chandler’s Ford War Memorial as poppies were laid at the foot of the memorial.

In remembrance of George Herbert Browning

One particular wreath has a card which reads, “In remembrance of George Herbert Browning”.

“Thank you for the sacrifice you made for us.”

With love, Great niece + Great Great Nice + Families.

You’ll find the name George H Browning on the left side of Chandler’s Ford War Memorial.

One wreath was a bit confusing. The note with the wreath first appeared as, “With grateful thanks, Eastleigh councillors and the Borough”.

The words “Eastleigh councillors” were somehow crossed off, to be replaced with Chandler’s Ford Parish Council and the Borough.

Small wooden crosses were also planted in the gardens of the Chandler’s Ford War Memorial.

Poppies from the Tower of London at the Parish Church

Inside St. Boniface Church, under the plaques of Remembrance were poppies from the Tower of London. The poppies have been donated by the Parish Office ladies for this and future Remembrance days.

Photographer Nigel Barker kindly shares the pictures of these beautiful poppies with us.
