Steaming hot in February!
There are some advantages to being 60 in Chandler’s Ford.
Last year, my husband and I discovered that residents over 60 can apply for a Leisure Pass for Fleming Park Leisure Centre, which allows the holder to access the facilities for half price during off-peak times. We have been merrily swimming and gym-ing ever since!
Before Christmas, my friend Janet took me to Spirit Health Club at Holiday Inn and we spent a very pleasant evening swimming and using the sauna and steam room. (This is a lovely facility, and well worth checking out).
It reminded me how much I enjoy a sauna during the winter months. I knew Fleming Park had a Health Suite accessed from the gym changing room, so I enquired about the cost – a very reasonable £3.50 with my pass. So on Friday, I drove off in the pouring rain and (for the princely sum of £7.00) spent an hour and a half in the gym and finished off the morning in the Health Suite.
Feeling 10 years younger!
When I pushed open the door, I found a pleasant space ringed with white chairs and a low central table. The lighting was low and relaxing. On the left I found the beautifully clean and comfortable sauna, which was alternately peaceful and full of friendly conversation as people drifted in and out. There is a communal cold shower to use between sessions situated between the steam room and the sauna. I did not venture into the steam room this time, but will try it out next week.
I emerged into the sunshine at lunchtime feeling fit, warm and relaxed, and ten years younger. What better way to spend a Friday in February?

I really look forward to a Free Bus Pass and a Leisure Pass soon!
