Meeting Carolyn Darbyshire MBE

December 9, 2013 By Janet Williams 9 Comments

I’m sure you recognise Lyn from Chandler’s Ford. Ask any Scout in Chandler’s Ford and they’ll tell you who this remarkable lady is.

Carolyn (known as Lyn) Darbyshire MBE is the District Commissioner of the Chandler’s Ford District Scouts.

She received her MBE from HRH Prince Charles in June this year, in recognition of her services to young people over 30 years. “Prince Charles twinkled at me!” Lyn told me with a big smile.

Lyn started at the 2nd Chandler’s Ford (Ramalley) Scout Group, working with the Cub Scout section, before becoming Group Scout Leader. She then became District Commissioner and has led Scouting in Chandler’s Ford for 14 years. Lyn was also a nurse for 44 years. You can read more about Lyn’s amazing Scouting journey on Hampshire Scouts.

I asked Lyn what it felt like to be awarded an MBE. “I was gobsmacked!” Lyn said.

Under Lyn’s leadership, the number of Scouts in Chandler’s Ford is up by 11% in 2012. There are now 658 Scouts in the Chandler’s Ford District. BBC ran this feature praising Lyn as Scout veteran in Hampshire.

Lyn likes being busy. She is also a member of St. Boniface Choir.

Thank you Lyn for your dedication to the Chandler’s Ford community. You have transformed many lives.
