What Do You See Around You?

April 12, 2020 By Ray Fishman 5 Comments

Have you been out taking your daily exercise during the current lockdown? Maybe walking around your local area a touch more than usual?

Have you realised that you have taken just a little bit more of your precious time on these local walks too? No need to rush. After all you have got all day every day for the next few weeks!

The weather has been very conducive too.

Did you think to look that bit closer than usual at some of the things you would normally not even notice? Maybe you were just rushing from A to B. before. Probably driving! Well I realised early on that I would need to exercise my eyes more. Take in the lovely sights so close to home. And what if I took some pictures to show those isolating at home?

Here are some of those pictures. Things I found interesting and may never have noticed before.

Hope they give you some pleasure. Do you know where they all are?

Rest awhile …but not at the moment

Maybe you would like to share some photos of your next walk to brighten up our hours.

Oh and I love the way people are smiling , waving or saying “hi” (from a social distance of course) when they see me. I hope this can continue when we are past these difficult times and we can continue to love where we live.

You are quite right, Ray. We do not use our senses to the full. Now is the time to develop our sense of smell. There are many perfumed blossoms out now and many of the early, winter flowering, plants have fantastic smells.
Bird song has entertained our hearing more this year than ever. The absence of aircraft noise has been a boon.
As for sight, I keep seeing more and more jobs that need doing around the garden. I have no excuse not to get on with them.

I’ve also noticed the bird song though, as the observant teenager pointed out in slightly different circumstances “the birds have always been singing; it’s just that we couldn’t hear them above the traffic”

I went for a bike ride yesterday and found a lovely bridlepath running from Chilworth to Castle Lane, with beautiful views over the fields towards Velmore Farm.

I also like the colourful chalk drawings that are appearing on paths and brick walls.

Chippy, Have you seen the video of the cops warning a shop keeper that making chalk marks on the footpath is against the law? Yesterday my neighbour did a chalk mark on the footpath with the rainbow and a message to keep indoors and wishing someone a happy birthday. A couple came by and took photographs. But then it looked bad. They entered to neighbour’s driveway and took close up photos of the car number plate. I wonder who was about to receive the photos.
