Weekend Teaser

September 28, 2019 By chippy minton 6 Comments

Hello, it’s Chippy again with a few more photo teasers.  My last photo quiz ended with a picture of the logo from the former Peter Hansford cycle shop and I hinted that this might have been a link to my next quiz.  And so the theme this week is Cycling.  More specifically cycle paths and their bridges.

Bridge Number 1

This is probably the latest addition to Eastleigh’s cycle route network, and the newest bridge.

Cycle Path Bridge 1

Bridge Number 2

Half of this underpass has been taken up by a large cupboard.  But where is it?

Cycle Path Bridge 3

Bridge Number 3

This pedestrian bridge is too steep to cycle across, but there is a convenient channel to help wheel bicycles over.

About chippy minton

I've lived in Chandler's Ford and Eastleigh for most of my working life, having been brought up in the south Midlands, and schooled in the Home Counties.

I work in IT, and my hobbies include bell ringing, walking, cycling and running.

I enjoy live theatre and music, and try to watch many of the shows that are performed in the Eastleigh area.

No. 1 is in Flemming Park, over Monks Brook.
No. 2 no idea, perhaps under the M3?
No. 3 is at the railway station, between Hursley Rd. And the current station.

1 is the first of two bridges on the new(ish) path between Stoneham Lane and the north of Lakeside Country Park.
2 is (I think – I haven’t been that way for a long time) the M3 underpass between Claudius Gardens/Claudius Close on Scantabout and Birch Grove on Boyatt Wood
3 is the footbridge at Chandler’s Ford railway station, apparently unloved by either South Western Trains or Network Rail.

      Hi John,

3 – yes I believe it’s the Rev. Wilbert Awdry Bridge – the colour green and yellow have given the answer away.

I wrote about this bridge twice.Rev. Wilbert Awdry Bridge Chandler’s Ford.

Why do you think the bridge is ‘unloved’? I know there was a lot of graffiti but I’m not sure if it has been cleaned up yet.

The bridge in the “teaser” picture isn’t the Rev Wilbert Awdry bridge, but the one on the east end of the station – the mesh canopy gives it away. I referred to it as unloved because it hasn’t had any discernable maintenance from the railway companies since it was put in when the station was fully reopened and it looks tired, to say the least.

Oh sorry about my mistake. Thanks for pointing this out. Chippy, any more info for us?

Apologies for the delay in giving feedback on your answers. It’s probably very bad etiquette to post a teaser and then go off to the Midlands for the weekend!

Bridge Number 1 is indeed on the new path from the North side of Lakeside Country Park to Stoneham Lane. There are a number of blackberry bushes alongside, that I will try to remember for next year’s blackberry season.

Bridge Number 2 is indeed under the M3, as Martin suggested – but not specific enough for a point. Alas, John, it is not between Claudius Gardens and Birch Grove. It’s further south, on the path that runs between Falkland Road and Fleming Park.

Picture Number 3 is the bridge at Chandlers Ford Station. Give yourself a bonus point if you recognised it as being the steps on the station side of the bridge.
