Wedding of Chandler’s Ford Girl

April 15, 2014 By Mike Sedgwick 3 Comments

On Saturday 12th April 2014 Chandler’s Ford born and bred Rowan Esther Catherine Cameron wed Robbie Stewart Weir at Weetwood Hall in Leeds. With names Cameron and Weir it was no surprise to see guests turning up in highland dress with kilts, black barathea jackets with silver buttons, sporrans and ghillies on the feet.

Modern political correctness meant that the sgian-dubh was not worn but some had a brooch in the form of a dagger. The ladies stuck to high street haute couture.

The bride Rowan Esther Catherine was given away by her father, Hugh Cameron of Chandler’s Ford.

Guests were piped into the ceremony by a young family member. The bride was given away by her father, Mr Hugh Cameron of Chandler’s Ford. The groom looked nervous throughout but was supported by his best man, Mr Sam Hargreaves. Both bride and groom performed faultlessly.

After the wedding breakfast, the speeches and the necessary toasts the floor was cleared for a ceilidh at which several guests performed. Mrs Ita Kelly, who left Chandler’s Ford for Netley a few years ago, sang Tom Lehrer’s ditty “Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.” We were entertained by two new songs extolling the virtues of the Bride and Groom and Mr Hugh Cameron gave a short recital on his cornet.

For the remainder of the evening a disco reigned for the young people and we older folk retired to a quiet area of the bar. The forthcoming vote on Scottish Independence was amicably discussed and new cross-border friendships were formed.

On the following morning we were able to greet the new Mr and Mrs Weir, who will settle in Leeds. Everyone was there for the ‘Full English Breakfast.’ We said our farewells knowing that the new couple had experienced a happy day to remember.

It’s fascinating to know the fine details and tradition in this wedding. There are so many new vocabulary for me to learn too. I’m pleased to hear the discussion on Scottish Independence went amicably well.

[…] Ita Kelly, who sadly left Chandler’s Ford for Netley a while back, looked fetching in her Matalan dress with green gardening gloves and watering can accessories. Her husband, Mike, made a great sailor as he modelled beach related objects. […]
