A budgie flying past one day,
Over a garden in Kent,
Did the thing that birds must do,
A little gift he sent.
After months of germination,
That little lump of muck
Grew into something special.
Oh what a piece of luck!
One morning in the garden
Surprised, Dee said to Reg,
“What’s that growing by the tub?
It’s not my usual hedge.”
As weeks went by, this plant it grew
High as the old church tower.
Surely not a common weed –
A beautiful sunflower.
One morning Red stood quite amazed,
Called “Dee, come take a look.
I think our unexpected gift
Will make the record book!”
So Dee and Reg made sure their prize
Was safe from tits and finches,
For when they measured it across
It came to sixteen inches!
