Station Walks Book Launch

June 23, 2015 By SO53 News 3 Comments

Station Walks Guide – a 88 page guide including 38 walks from local railway stations – will be launched this weekend.

The book contains 2 walks from Chandler’s Ford.

The Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership and Transition Southampton are pleased to announce the launch of the long awaited Station Walks Guide.

3 Rivers Station Walks Guide

This 88 page guide is compiled by Dr Clare Diaper. The guide includes 38 walks from railway stations from Salisbury to Southampton Central, Redbridge to Bursledon and all stations in between as well as other information about places to visit, history and travel.

Station Walks Book Launch

Where? Books for Free, Third Age Centre SO14 OLH Southampton

When? Saturday 27th June from 10.30am to 12pm, followed by a short walk to the Junction Inn at St Denys, Priory Road, Southampton SO17 2JZ. (some light refreshments available from 1300 along with a beer festival!)

Mark Miller, Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership Officer said, “All walks start and finish at stations and vary in length and difficulty from half a mile to 8 miles and there is something suitable for all abilities. So now summer’s upon us, why not use this guide to get out into the open air and discover the countryside on your doorstep?”

He said special thanks go to My Journey Sustainable Travel Campaign, Southampton City Council and other local authorities and individual volunteers who helped compile this wonderful publication. Without their hard work, footslogging, funding and detailed input this guide would never have been produced.

Cost: £5

The books are on sale for only £5 per copy and proceeds will be reinvested in Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership for the production of other publications aimed at encouraging people to travel by train to visit this area and in Transition Southampton projects, inspiring a happier, healthier and greener Southampton.

Mark said, “We have a special offer available to tourism outlets, environmental and community groups who may want to help raise funds for their own purposes. Purchase 10 copies for £25.”

If you would like a copy or copies of the guide please come along to the launch events or contact info@threeriversrail.com or booksforfree.soton@gmail.com or phone 07900 103 296.

Thanks so much for this post. It resulted in many open tabs on my laptop as one interesting topic led to another. So helpful when people have Facebook tabs on their websites – a great way remember things of interest to return to and give them a ‘like in the meantime. I’m not massively savvy with social media but I love it! x
